'99 Accord 5sp MT slipping out of 5th gear
Background: Has 205k miles, just had engine replaced with JDM F23A engine, at the same time, replaced driver side CV axle, had the seals replaced, and an Exedy/Dieken clutch kit put in.
We get the car back from the mechanic about 3 weeks ago (maybe 2-3k miles) and all is well up until last night. On the way home, I am going down the interstate at about 80mph and all of a sudden it sounds/feels like something snaps and I lose power. I determine the car isn't in gear, so I put in back in gear and continue home. About 5 mins later, it does it again. This contines for the next 75-80 miles. The frequency started occurring more often. I then started resting my hand against the gear stick so I could tell when it starts slipping out of gear. When I feel the gear stick moving back towards my hand, I let off the gas, the gear stick would jump back forward (towards the engine) and all would be fine until it would start slipping out again. The frequency got to the point that I would have to let off the gas every 5-6 secs. Accelerate for 5 secs and then let off. I thought I was going to get sea sick!
I then tried driving in 4th gear. I dropped down to 60mph and drove a few mins in 4th gear and the car drove fine. I tried 5th gear again..and again it started slipping out of gear?
Opinions anyone?
Keith

Sounds like the syncro let go.
If it is he syncro I imagine that it would probably be cheaper to get a used trans than to have your current one rebuilt.

Well...on a post from another website, it suggested to change the transmission fluid (I didn't know MTs have transmission fluid. I drained the fluid in the trans (there was less than .25 qts that came out), added just shy of the 2 qts and took it for a spin. Low and behold....it worked like it should.
I will post back in the next couple of days if it starts giving us issues.....but so far so good!!!!

Should find out why it only had 1/8 of it's required fluid. You might have a seal leaking that should be looked after as well. Usually with a fluid loss of that magnitude it is noticeable and easy to diagnose.
