I want to buy a 1999 b16b type r engine swap, but I've asked what the compression test results were and they were 190-195psi on all four cylinders. Im wondering are these good results for that engine since it is high compression, or should this engine be around 200-225 psi per cylinder?? Please let me know if I should just keep shopping around for a swap with higher compression results or if this would be okay to run for along time. Thanks

its a used engine swap with 40,000 miles on it, but shouldn't the compression be more since the engine is a higher compression engine as is? I've seen a few that are 215psi on all four cylinders.

damn man that's a lot of money for one that is missing some important pieces. I have a b16b to buy or a b18c type r both are about the same price ranging from $3300-3600 shipped to my door. just dont know which route to go.
just a tip to make sure its a 99 engine check the engine serial number
99-00 = B16B 120 facelift RX
98 = B16B 110 facelift
97 = B16B 100 pre-facelift
99-00 = B16B 120 facelift RX

That's what I was thinking too and the b18c has a little bit more horsepower and the gears are longer in the transmission. I wanted to try out a lot of engines ranging from an f20b to the h22 euro-r to do an h2b setup with either (I'm still kind of interested in the f20b), but what got me the most interested in the b-series again is they mainly tend to last longer than any h-series engine, I may be wrong and it may be all based on how one takes care of their engine.

man to be honest i never knew that till now thats a great tip, and Im thinking its hard as hell to get an actual 99 model engine if I do its gunna cost a lot more then a 96-98 model. Is it the same way with the b18c type-r's? But instead they go from the 200's on their serial numbers? like 200 for a 97 b18c?

I think the H's can tend to be oil eaters as well.

well if it is loads of crap then can you please tell me what engine you think would be best suited to last the longest between the h22, h23a vtec and the f20b? only reason I ask is just because I am super lost on which route I want to go with my car, and I have a little bit of money to spend on doing a swap. Plus I don't want to get bored with a type r in my car too quickly, just need something fun
I don't know what your definition of fun. It tells me that all you want to do is race Mustangs on the freeway and everybody else from stoplight to stoplight.
Biggest engine with the most horsepower that you can afford. It's not that hard people.
Type R = Hype R.

That's nuts right there I dont race anyone, so I dont want to race from stoplight to stoplight or any mustangs I can promise you that. Just want to be different if I can be from the mainstream people who have what everyone else has. I already know that there is no replacement for displacement, I want to know what would last the longest and be just a good swap for a daily driver. So it sounds like I might be doing a type r swap.

Honda and different is an oxymoron. There's NOTHING you can put together that is different.
You get that B16B and wonder why you spent all that extra money for not much more horsepower and **** for torque.
Any engine in good health will last. It's a HONDA!!!

Sorry guys I have got to ask this since it has been bugging me for awhile now. I have a 99 civic with a b-series swap in right now and if I do go to an h-series or f-series engine would it be wise to run the f20b lsd transmission that came with the swap, or just go with a b-series trans since there are different options on gear ratios? I know it all comes down to whether I want to do an h2b setup or just go with the full f or h-series swap. Just need some guidance and opinions
