Default Mini Me timing help

My head gasket went on my 97dx. So I decided to to a MiniMe swap while I had the motor open. I purchased a Y8 head, intake manifold and timing belt. Got it all together with all the timing marks at TDC. Problem is when I went to dial in the timing with my timing light I couldn't get the timing marks in position. I turned the dizzy and it got pretty close but I ran out of play. I moved the cam gear one tooth and finally the timing mark is in postion but the motor doesnt sound to happy and I know that its a tooth off when it shouldn't be. Has anyone seen this? I'm runnnig the y7 dizzy as I haven't read about not using thre stock unit. I have a y8 dizzy but the clip is different.

There are tons of Mini Me swap guides out there. A couple in the FAQs of this forum. Maybe you should refer to one of those and see what parts you should be using and maybe get an idea of what went wrong with your swap.

Really. At this stage in the game (said that twice today) there should be no reason why one of these cannot be done without issue when a proper guide is used and followed.

First off did you paparclip the two pin connector (like you do to get cels) and then use the timing gun? The timing marks on the cam gear are different from dx and y8.did you use the y8 mark?
When I did mine (Y8 head a6 block) I just centered the dizz and it ran great. I hardly use the timing gun for timing unless its bone stock motor/car.
Also are you using premium gas since you now have high compression?
