S80 USDM Trans Lockoutout! Help me ASAP!!
So yesterday we were installing my friends build into his integra and getting the new motor ready for its first start up. The motor and everything started up fine but we came across a nasty problem. When we let the clutch out while the linkage appeared to be in neutral it was locked in a gear i assume because the wheels instantly started spinnig as it were in a gear. We took the tranny back out of the car and opened it up. The only thing we changed prior to installing was a couple of bearings. The mainshaft clutch housing bearing was originally decimated. We didnt find much when we opened the case otherwise that when we slid the selector hub of 1-2nd when it was in first it would lock the shafts in place and when we put it in second it spun freely and nice like it should. 3rd-4th and 5th-R(reverse on shift set spun freely as well when selected) shift sets did they same thing the locked the shafts in place and i couldnt find the answer i was looking for. Also when you let the slutch it with the car running it stalls the car out. My only assumption is that the kid he got the tranny from may have had someone that tampered with it and "forgot" to give that information if maybe someone swapped out a gear or something thats making it do this. If anyone can shed some light on this it would be a life saver. If need be i can probably figure out how to put pics up or im open to giving my number through a pm so it would be easier to communicate. Btw also running a cusco super single OS aluminum with stock throwout bearing(?) Thanks Honda TEch

I just did the photobucket from my phone and it's not working at all. I feel technology impaired right now sorry I'll keep trying maybe I can only do it from computer
Main and countershafts look to be installed right. What I really wanted was to see it with the forks and shift mechanism still it though.
Also, 3rd gear synchro is worn out. 4th doesn't look so hot either but it's hard to tell.
Take everything apart, all of it, pull the gears off the shafts and clean everything really well with brake clean. Inspect all parts for wear, replace as necessary, reassemble everything carefully.

Yea I already disassembled and reassembled everything 2 times and double checked them with shifting but as soon as there put together in the case they just fight each other. We bought the trans and kid said it was not taken apart I think he's full of **** personal. I had this problem before years ago when I wasnt attempting trans repair and the guy told me there was a wrong gear in it he changed it out and it worked fine. I just don't know how to tell if there's a way to determine what gears by teeth count or etc are supposed to be paired inside trany. I'm lost. Waiting to hear back from James or Kenny at gearspeed I spoke to them yesterday

Yea I'm gonna check a couple of other things in just gonna call them again Monday and tell them to check out this post because the pictures I took is the way he wanted me to take them this way but I couldn't email pics for some reason. The prob is its not working even with shift forks and shift change removed it still binds up and only 2nd works correctly
The only thing I can think of is that second gear is locked to the countershaft all the time. Meaning that if you engage any gear but second it's in two gears at once which will make it bind up.
Friend of mine mentioned to me yesterday that if the countershaft nut on top is too tight It could be binding up all the gears squeezing them down and making it bind up. I did not torque it :x any clue on you're spec for that nut?
I've always just cranked them on with an impact gun to a point where the nut was in the same place it was when it came off. Most of them were on D-series trans. But I just did a B-series trans that way this week with no issues.
Ok so today was a success. Came to my shop cranked loose the countershaft nut tapped gears up a little bit torqued to 80ft/lbs loosen to 0 then finished at 70. Immediately fixed the problem started shifting and spinning freely. According to Alldata it says that's a throw away nut should be replaced every time it's removed. I value and appreciate the info you have supplied me with and I appreciate it. If there's anything I can help you with in the future pm me. Thanks again 94eg8 Adam HighCompression Automotive
That nut is indeed supposed to be replaced everytime it's removed, although I suspect most people probably don't.
Glad you got everything sorted out.
