Default Oil pan hairline cracks

Just pulled this off of a civic with a d16y8... The cracks inside I can feel but the ones on the outside you cannot feel. Do you think this pan is good to use or should it be replaced?

Does it leak? Those just look like casting lines like you'd see on the block

It doesnt leak I'm just afraid it will worsen over time if they were caused by overtightening... no scraps on oil pan from curbs or speedbumps

If my pan looked like that, I think I'd replace it.

Why? Isn't that just like the same marks you see on a cylinder block?

I really dislike the Y7 oil pan gasket. It's a pain to properly install and is easily damaged by even slight over-torquing. That's why I prefer the Y8 pan.

My Y8 oil pan does not have those hairline cracks. In my opinion, the OP's oil pan either has impact damage or was defective right out of the box.

What impact would cause these cracks because the car is not mine so I dont have a history on it.

Oil pans ride close to the ground. The location of the cracks are right where an object would be expected to strike the pan.

They really aren't that bad. Here's the thing, when I worked for Honda we used to replace aluminum pans all the time because of stripped drain plug holes, also if you're lowered (or drive off-road like I do) they tend to get smashed on bumps or rocks.

Neither pan is perfect, but I do think the steel pan has more going for that, and I live in a place where they rust through (all the freaking time )

I understand and agree with your point. The steel pan is more sturdy. I just prefer the Y8 pan gasket over the Y7 gasket.

Btw, The cracks on the inside of the pan just look like casting marks, the ones on the outside I'm not so sure about. You might want to put a propane torch on them and see if they open up.

Your pan is fine. they come new that way, no extra charge for them. Normal.

I agree that the ones on the outside are much more concerning. The close proximity of the inside and outside "cracks" made me think they could be related.

I would replace it if I were you. I've bought and sold Y8 pans for around 30 bucks. Make sure you install your new one properly. Get a new Y8 oil pan gasket and use some hondabond on the gasket. I forget the certain areas where you use the hondabond. Also torque it in the correct sequence or else you may have to start all over. I've read a few DIYs on it.

And the Y7 pan is heavier than the Y8 pan. W3Ight R3duCt10n Y0!

looks ok to me. as long as you're not leaking oil and you didn't hit anything it should be fine to use.
