squealing sound when turning in parking lots
hello all, recently ive been have an annoying squealing like sound thats preety loud that everybody stares. its a 1995 honda civic dx hatch, my friend toldme it could be power steering but i dont know and i would really like to fix this squeal or what is it? sorry i am not a car guy
I believe your belt is slipping, which in turn is causing the noise you hear. When you turn the car, you are putting a load on the power steering pump. My guess is it has gone the way of the dodo bird causing the belt to slip and make the noise.
Start off by replacing the power steering belt. It's cheap, easy, and you should do it anyway if you have to move to step 2, so no money lost.
If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the power steering pump. All you'll need is a ratchet, 10/12mm sockets, and some power steering fluid. It's stupid easy to do, and shouldn't take even a novice more than 30 minutes (not counting beer breaks).

Have you checked the deflection on your power-steering belt? Does it feel very loose, maybe inspect its quality?
Mine was too loose after I did some work on my Civic, it was an easy fix. All I did was loosen the adjusting bolt, pulled the pump, pulley and belt towards the front of the car as best as I could, tightened the bolt. No more squealing, though your problem might not be that simple.
