Default Different turbo exhaust housing doesn't fit.

I can bolt the housing on with no problem, but it is so snug, and the exducer blades do not move. It seems as if a very minimal amount should be sanded off if possible, it would fit without issues. The exducer looks the same in both housing, but the previous housing spins fine, then this one will not.

what are my options? a turbo place said I can't use it with my current exducer. There is a lip if in the middle, if that makes a difference.

Thanks

Its not machined for your wheel

so, I can get it machined for my wheel? A turbo shop told me I simply can't use it. I know there are a few more places around here.

you can have it remachined... if theres enough material to do so...

the turbo machinist says in essence there is not enough material or you have a fitment issue of the cartridge with the housing itself. For example. People will attempt to use a GT3076R T31 4 bolt turbine housing and attempt fit it to a Stage III 50 trim which also has a 4 bolt turbine housing. 50 trim turbo will not fit in GT3076R turbine housing due to cartridge width difference.

If its done.. its done.. Move on.

mac, is there that big of a difference between CHRA's? I've noticed most of my turbos, big and small (except for the t2 based) share an almost identical CHRA, just the mounting method differs as far as number of holes, pattern, etc.

The key word is almost. Yes, there is a difference in cartridge sizes. there is a smaller lip that has a different diameter between the two cartridges.

Yea i went back and looked without the housings. The outside lip appears to be the same size
the inner lip or diameter of the turbine end of the CHRA is what seems to change.

To the OP... Did you even bother to check if this housing would work on your existing turbo before you purchased it?

I mean i know we've all made mistakes when purchasing parts. I know i have
but when it comes to something like a turbine housing you normally ask if it fits... You don't buy it assuming you can make it fit... There are literally thousands if not hundreds of thousands of CHRA/turbine wheel combos

nope didnt bother seeing if it fit, and I regret it cause I had my ****ing turbo with me.

I only paid 40 bucks for it, so I'm not tripping. Honestly, I assumed it would fit, but I learn my lessons the hard way.

Called another turbo shop, they said I would be better off buying new wheels to fit the new housing. They said it would take "a ton" of work to machine the housing to fit. Its almost tempting trying to shave some of it off myself, but I dont want to **** it up

Buying a new wheel to.fit a housing is kinda dumb honestly. Why did you buy this New housing?
And you really cannot do this on your own. There has to be a very small and precise gap around the wheel answer the housing. If this gap is any smaller your turbine wheel will snap off. If it's any larger you loose efficiency, power and spool up time
