Default d16a6 Timing Belt Change

I was just wondering what parts should I change when replacing the timing belt. My 89 Si has about 147,000 miles.

I would do the tensioner and the water pump. Also any accessory belts might as well be changed.

I'd agree. Just make sure you have it timed right. Also, i'd check your thermostat...

Never used any of them, but I know that the honda parts for my DX are only 20 bucks more for genuine OE products.

i always just went oreilly's or napa but its your call. Just remember, the cheaper the belt the less miles you'll get before it snaps...

it's a little over kill to be using the racing belt. you would be fine getting a regular Gates belt. Gates is the supplier/maker for oem honda belts.

timing belt, tensioner, tensioner spring, cam gear seal, oil pump/front crank gear seal, and all other accessory belts. valve cover gasket, and grommets also. is what you would need.

my advice, always get oem timing belt, and water pump. if you cheap out and get autozone or the such, you might be getting a part that is not to spec. also if it looks like you might need one, get a oem thermostat.

don't forget to also lash your valves since you have the cover off.

You don't necessarily need those right? Just because your in that area you might as well do it. Right?

The oil pump isn't necessary but the seals will cost another $10 or $12 and are a 10 or 15 min more fix.. No reason not to, as you'll have the engine torn down on that side already..

Just make sure not to scratch the cam or crank surfaces that the seal sits on.. If you do, get some really fine sand paper and get to work smoothing it..

And just as a side note, my stepmom bought a wagon 10years ago for $250 because the engine smoked really bad... Went to do the timing belt on it to find out that the cam seal leaked so bad that oil got down onto the exhaust and made it look like it was smoking going down the road.. Long story short, she bought a $1200 car for cheap and fixed the issue with a $5 seal plus a tune up..
