^ yea ur rack is done. look over it it i chould just be the inner tie rod but if it just keeps spinning its prolly the rack
i was inspecting the rack and pinion today and it all looks in good shape...
only thing i found that seemed out of place to me was the steering column..is this normal?

move the rubber boot so u can c if the column is connected or not. looks fine though. and by "move it" do u mean to c if its connected or to c if it spins?
i got a chance to take a better look at it today and this is what i found...
green line is the part comming from the car...blue line is the part going to the rack and pinion...the blue part circled i noticed does not spin when the steering wheel is turned...the rest does turn...

the splined ends are notched for bolts to go through. if the bolt is broke, loose or not there. you definetly hit it pretty hard and should definetly be calling insurance and having a body shop look at it.
also if you have over rotated the steering wheel to many turns the srs clock spring could be damaged.
all in all money is piling up and insurance will help.
