Icon2 Advice on A/C Repair for Honda Pilot

I am hoping for some advice on an A/C repair for a 2005 Honda Pilot. The tech has diagnosed that the clutch on the compressor is bad. It's getting power to the clutch, but not engaging. He wants to replace the entire compressor, at a parts+labor cost of $650. I am wondering if A) this could be a simpler problem and B) if it would cost less and still be effective to just replace the clutch.

Thanks,
Susan

the clutch coil is what usually gives out. but not the whole compressor.
