No lock up at hwy speeds
I have a 1991 accord ex 133,000 automatic transmision shifts good an firm. But does not go into lock up at hwy speeds just got the car my first honda no check engine light on.went to a couple of local stores they could not pull the codes or to see if any codes were stored because of age of vehicle.is there away for me to pull any codes that maybe stored my self.and what may be the problem with this no lock up problem rite now its turning about 2100 rpm at 55mph in 4 th
it has a lock up torque converter its going into 4 th but once speed is leveled off the the torque converter does not lock up to drop the rpms down usualy 200 to 500 rpms or at least in other car i have owned does this is my first honda i have owned
Ok in 4 th gear its turning 2,200 rpm at 55 mph.The transmision never goes into over drive. And now i go out to go to work and the car would not start. It cranked but didnt start pulled the plug Wire off and checked for spark it was good.Came home tonight decided to try starting it again it fired up no problem. wondering if fuel supply might be weak and if this would cause it not to go into overdrive.Sorry for the punctuation not being correct.I had just got off work in a plant that was 120 degrees and 12 hr shift.I will try to do better

Any codes? Service connector is on the pass side - glove box area. Insert paperclip, or something, turn the key to on and watch the D4 and CEL light. Count and record any "flashes" and which light it was from.
Checked the solenoid?
Fluid is Honda fluid, clean and at the proper level?

Yes I have checked the fluid and it is at proper level and there is no burnt smell, looks clean. But dont know if its Honda fluid. Will the brand make a difference?I checked for codes on car but no codes were present.when i drive it shift real good into all 4 gears.just never goes in to over driver or torque converter lock up.Where is these selinoids on the transmission and is there a test for them?
You would have to do a pressure test.. I be leave there is a few ports on the driver side of the trans comming off the pump. You can lift the front of the car off the ground and test that way.
Is the car running cold i.e. has someone installed a colder thermostat? If so the car will not engage torque converter lockup. I recommend using a genuine Honda thermostat.
Have you checked the NC sensor on the front of the trans? It’s located directly under the battery area. It’s better to remove the battery to access it. Clean that area of the trans off before removing the 10mm bolt holding the sensor into the trans. After the sensor is removed clean off any buildup on the tip.
The temp sensor for the ECU can also be bad which could give false readings preventing lockup. This is why mine would not lock.
It’s possible the trans solenoid is bad. This is the top one on the trans.

No I havent checked those at all.But I will check the NC sensor today. Also I will check the others as well.do you appen to know roughly what the RPMs should be at 55 mph with converter lock up?
Dale, for the future, please look at the dates of the posts before responding. This thread was last posted to almost a DECADE ago, it's very unlikely anyone will still need help or even own the car at this point and the poster himself has not made another post in 10 years. Generally, there is no need to post to a thread this old.
