Default 99 coupe overheating in traffic

Driving 99 coupe d16y8

So I recently noticed that after sitting in stop and go traffic my thermostat says I'm running hot almost reaching the top white line but never to it and definitely not in the red. As soon as I start moving again the thermostat drops back down to normal temp. So my question is what's causing it to act like this and what are some possible ways to fix the problem.

Is your radiator fan kicking on?
Hows your coolant level? (have a look in the overflow reservoir, and in the rad when the car is COLD)

Check it and the thermostat and stop driving and overheating it. or you'll be looking for a new engine.

Locate the fan switch, jump it (google), and then turn the car on. The fan should come on immediately.

If it does, then the switch is bad, if not, then the fan/relay, or wiring to the fan is bad.

Check your coolant level as many have suggested, too.

I would say check the fan first see if it's even turning on at all. Then you can go from there

Its not like I'm overheating it on purpose. I looked at my coolant last night it looked to be at a decent level. I was thinking about having my coolant system flushed to possibly get anyair bubbles out of the system. I'll start with the small fixes first like the thermostat and fan or switch.

A flush isn't going to get bubbles out of the system, a bleed is. That's something you can do in your driveway, for the cost of a small bottle of coolant and an hour of your time.
