Default eg hatch with oem 06 si muffler sound?

My eg hatch currently has the oem muffler on but without a resonator str8 pipe. Sounds ok and quiet but muffler going bad inside and need new muffler. I have a 06 si exhaust from a friend and want to know how will it sound like.
Any one have these on eg hatches? going with my d15z1. Will i loose power. Will it sound good. Im planning to get the tip a little shorter and painting it flat black.

Sounds good and you can't get a repair order for it cuz it's stock Honda. I say do it!

Except the law is a bit more complex than that. Nice try, though.

Not if it says Honda on it and you have a cat you'll beat the system all day

If you'd like, I can pull out the federal, state, and local laws for where to live. I can tell you, for a fact, that in a LARGE number of localities, "It's Honda" doesn't work.

Federally, emissions systems must be from the same chassis. You can take the exhaust off a 98 EX and put it on your 96 DX just fine, but you cannot take the exhaust off your 81 and put it on your 97, or off an 06 and slap it on a 98. That's the federal law, but if you have the FBI under your car, I think you have other things to worry about. Go ahead, give me your state and locality, and I'll find the relevant legal code for you.

Seriously, unless you happen to have passed the bar, I have a bit more experience reading and interpreting legal texts than you do.

California state code has a HUGE section regarding exhausts. Here is the most relevant portion for the OP, assuming he's capable of installing it correctly, and maintaining it.

27151. (a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor
vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted
by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance
with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits
established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5 (commencing with
Section 27200). No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an
exhaust system so modified.
(b) For the purposes of exhaust systems installed on motor
vehicles with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of less
than 6,000 pounds, other than motorcycles, a sound level of 95 dbA or
less, when tested in accordance with Society of Automotive Engineers
Standard J1169 May 1998, complies with this section. Motor vehicle
exhaust systems or parts thereof include, but are not limited to,
nonoriginal exhaust equipment.
SAE J1169 is stupid complicated, and not something a state cop can perform on the side of the road. There is a lot of mention in California state codes to a dBa test at 50 feet from the center of the lane of travel, but if a cop has you stop in the middle of the road so he can test you, he's asking to cause an accident. As far as the state legal system is concerned, he should be ok with the '06 SI muffler, assuming the rest of his exhaust system is intact. An '06 SI wouldn't be allowed to be sold in CA if it didn't pass those same laws.

Unfortunately, the OP hasn't said where in California he lives, so I can't pull legal texts for his locality to be sure.

I would help you educate yourself a little, assuming you live in California, but you seem perfectly happy just breaking the laws instead of actually following them.
