Codes 8 & 9
I have the same problem to after my engine setup swapped from my drag crx to my daily driver. Suddenly code 9 but the weird thing is it never did throw that code in the other chassis in we also swapped the engine harnass so no changes where made.
I swapped in another distributor and the code was gone for 5 mins or so.
Yesterday i noticed the ground wire from engine to chassis was missing, probably they forgot to put it back. I'm wondering now can it be i already thrashed 2 distributors because this wire wasn't placed back after the swap?

I doubt the ground wire would ruin a distributor. But you do need to make sure all of your grounds are properly installed, otherwise your engine is going to run like ****.
Is this a dpfi-mpfi swap by chance? If it is, check your wiring. If you (or whoever did the conversion) half-assed any of the wiring - bad solder, butt connectors, twist connecters, wires only twisted together with nothing securing them, et c. That can cause your problem. Even if the harness was working perfectly before, that doesn't mean a wire couldn't have come loose.
If the harness checks out, borrow a known good distributor and test it on your engine to see if the codes go away, or test your possibly bad distributor on someone else's engine that runs with no problems and see if the same codes pop up.
