Default D Series header

Got a chance to pick up a used D series header for $40 from a buddy. Just wondering if it will bolt right into my CRX DX. It is for a 92-95 civic, but I'm pretty sure from researching this that it will fit my stock D15. I just wanna be sure before I buy something I can't use. Also, what will I need to hook it to my cat. He said something about a thing that goes in between the header and cat that he's not sure if he has. Not really sure what it is but it's some kind of mesh thing? Sound right? Someone please let me know if this header will work and how hard it will be to put it on and what, if anything, I will need. Doesn't look too hard. Before you say don't waste your money on the D15, I'm gonna do a D16z6 swap soon and I figured I could use it on that when I swap it into my car. Thanks.

He had it on 94? civic for a short time already and he said it goes all the way to the cat, so I'm not sure about the test pipe. All he said was it didn't match up to the original cat so he had to get a new one. Kinda worries me cause once I get the stock junk off I'm walking until I get the header on. Trying to avoid that, LOL...

Ok, I think I answered my own question. Thanks for the tip. Did some research and I guess the test pipe is what connects the 2 1/2 in header flange to the 2 in stock exhaust. Right? Is there any other way around this without going 2 1/2 inch all the way back? Some sort of reducer or something I can get fast and CHEAP? Don't want to wait forever for one to get shipped...

Problem solved... Got this converter for $35 NEW in box off Craigslist about ten min ago and only had to drive 10 miles to get it. Gotta love Craigslist, lol!

A test pipe is what you use when you want to DELETE your catalytic converter. With all else being equal (and stock/unmodified), the header you install should reach the catalytic converter without any additional piping or extensions.

Well after an hour and a half and some cussing I got it on... Didn't put the converter on though, couldn't get the old one off. Guess I'll go have a muffler shop do that tomorrow. Only two issues: Stripped out my O2 sensor trying to get it out of the old manifold and a damn exhaust stud broke off in the head. Everything seems to be good though. No leaks. Got to keep the other nuts tight for now and I think I'll be ok for awhile. It's the one on the left side end if you are facing the motor. Went for a drive and it seems to have a little more throttle response. Ran it up to about six grand and blew the sensor out, lol. Got a clothes hanger holding it in until I can get to a parts store tomorrow. I think if I put the converter on and get the rest of the exhaust ran out in bigger pipe with a good muffler it will probably run pretty decent. Not a scorcher, but decent. Now it is time for a MPFI conversion and a new intake and I'll be happy for a while until I get my new motor. It was too dark to take a pic when I got done so I'll get one on here tomorrow.

Btw, 24TEN you were exactly right, not that I ever doubted you. I was able to chunk a bunch of useless BS in the corner of the garage. Thanks for the info though. Made me able to relax a little and just get 'er done.

Just ordered this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FIREBALL-RAC...3f1542&vxp=mtr

Don't know how good it is, but the price was right! Gotta be better than the POS 1 1/2" glasspack on there now...

Ok, got the cat on. Cost me $100 though... From watching them do it I determined that I could have NEVER gotten the old one off anyway. Pretty much had to beat it out and beat the bolts out too. I was doing the work off jack stands and didn't have much room to work so I guess I'm not too pissed at the expense. Anyway, Left the shop and got 200 yards up the road and heard a loud pop then it sounded like the thing was running a straight header. Seems that someone had forgotten to tighten the bungs on the new cat. Went back and got it all straightened out. Runs better and sounds better now. Muffler should be here in a few days! Once I get that on and delete the resonator and Glasspack and run the rest out in 2 1/2" pipe it should sound pretty mean! Already has better throttle response and tachs up faster and smoother so I'm interested to see what happens next. Got a pinhole leak downwind of the cat making a slight buzzing sound but that's all gonna go away soon...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the test pipe that's pictured?

Thought it was at first, and it may be... Says catalytic converter on the box though and has some resemblance of a honeycomb/mesh inside. No hookup for smog though unless that's what one of the bungs is for. All the better if it is a test pipe though...

No, the mesh I'm talking about is INSIDE the body of the cat. I never said ANYTHING about a "wire" mesh. I know what a freaking gasket is... I am an electronics engineer, I think I can figure that much out, so LOL right back at ya buddy!

Lol, I have an 1100 watt stereo with 11 speakers, including two 12's and an 18 in the back... I wouldn't be worried about the lack of a resonator making excessive noise.

It was my mistake, I was thinking test pipe even though you said you got a CONVERTER off of craigslist.

It's all good. Wasn't really sure what I had myself, even standing there looking at it. Just knew it had that typical honeycomb mesh inside it so I figured it was a cat. I really don't see how it does much good as a converter from the way it's made. Pretty much a straight shot through it. Just has the stuff in there kind of like a lining. I've used similar high flow models on all my other emission controlled muscle cars, but they were always ALOT bigger. I think mostly it's just got enough to pass in it...
