$600 to get my front and rear brake pads and rotors replaced?
Look around, some shops are cheaper than others. Go to at least 2 different one's and see the prices. I found a shop in a poor neighborhood near me that is very cheap.
What dj said though. If you want to do it yourself it is much more economical and its not really hard. You just gotta be meticulous not to break anything (like a brake line). There are many videos online which show you how to do car work. Just google your particular job and look on youtube.

Note:
I wouldn't put $20-$30 rotors on any car that I own. If you do you will more than likely end up having to replace them again in the next year or two. You get what you pay for and the brakes are the most important safety related part of your car. Not saying to go with the premium brand if you are on a budget, but there is a happy medium!

Personally, I use Duralast gold pads and Duralast rotors because of the warranty. I know there are better pads and rotors out there, but for a daily driver, these are fine in my opinion. I drive roughly 30-40k a year. No squeaks.

If the op is replacing all 4 sets of pads and 4 rotors it will be expensive. If they are using OEM or good quality brake parts it will cost you close to $200-$250 for all of the parts. Then you add in close to 3/4 hours labour.

$55 for front pads
$60 for rear rotors

I was wrong slightly wrong.... in my pricing in my last post. This is all parts from autozone. I can get a shop to slap on pads and rotors for my Honda at $70 for both front and back which means total with out tax you would still be looking at $320.... almost half the price that the OP said a shop was going to charge. AND you would never have to pay for pads again with that price.....
Why would he never have to buy pads again? You dont know how the OP drives his car, maybe he rides the brakes... maybe he likes to drive fast... You cant just say that. I always use Napa gold rotors (brembo) and the adapt 1 but I drive my car hard and need something that will last. but just for the fronts its something like 250ish after my discount.
Night, I think you have there pad warrenty mixed up... They dont replace them if they wear out only if they crack or fail because of issues when produced.. They do wear out....

Then your getting lucky and they are getting screwed.. Brake pads are a good source of income for part stores. Its not how its suppose to be or there just dumb and dont care.. If that was my store I would fire all the idots for costing me money..
If they are doing their job (at least at Autozone and Advance) they will look at the old pads before just handing you new ones. The warranty is supposed to be voided if the pads are worn unevenly, cracked, or worn to the backing plate. Between all the cheap people that just slap pads in and call it a day, people hard on the brakes, and people who just don't keep the car long enough to have to do the brakes more than once I'm sure 80% or more of the pads sold never get returned under warranty. Those that do bring them back have a good chance at being told they have no warranty and that probably need to buy more parts since their pads didn't wear evenly.
by the way - I work at an autozone - and every manager I have worked under has the policy, if it's not worn to the metal, they will replace the pads. (under lifetime warranty pads) even admitting to the customer that we are kind of ripping ourselves off. Its a great deal if you trust the quality and plan to have the vehicle for a while. If you're worried about that part just double check the store's policy before you buy. Returns are manager discretion anyway.
What is this nonsense?
I would fire all of you guys if you worked at my auto parts store.
The lifetime warranty on pads and rotors covers defects. Pads are perishable items.
Sorry but it's as silly as walking into a Kost or tire place and getting your tires replaced free of charge because the tread has worn a little. They'll replace it under warranty only if the tires are wearing abnormally fast. And by abnormal I mean abnormal.
It's a canard or some sort of public misconception to think "lifetime warranty" on automotive items that wear means "unconditional free replacement." You get free replacements on tools. Not pads. Or tires. Or any suspension parts and other parts that wear.
No doubt some people operate under this false delusion and go into stores and get what they want. But they are lucky indeed and the employees and managers of the stores they go to have to be stupid indeed or just very very generous.

Anyway, you'll be charged a lot for brake service as usually they're not just going to replace pads and rotors. They are going to require a hardware change (shims, boots, springs), a brake fluid flush, and will even replace calipers if they feel you need it. And that's all because they are doing a professional job and don't want customers coming back crying about a brake failure that could have been avoided with a brake fluid flush or something besides the pad change.
Although, I too wonder if the 2000 Accord has captive rotors. The high price for doing those makes sense as it involves a lot of labor.

At the shop I work at we charge $109 installed (per axle) for brake pads, which come with a lifetime warranty....meaning you never have to pay for those brake pads again no matter what happens to them.
I don't get how any company could stay in business by giving away brake pads. I always assumed that warranties were for any defects or premature wear in a product. Not, Oh well my pads pads wore out over 4 years. Guess I'll cash in on this covers everything warranty and get some new ones for free!.........:shakeshead:
