Default 96 Civic Sedan quarter glass

96 civic sedan 4 dr....

someone busted my quarter glass to gain entry to my car and stole my stuff.... im trying to figure out what are the steps to replace that piece of glass to see if im comfortable enough to do it myself or if i should take it to a professional.... i got a quote for 108 for the job and i'd rather do it myself if possible. ive been googling for about an hour and couldnt find any instructions on how this is done. so now i turn to HT.

thanks

can you be a little more specific? i know how to take off the door panel, but what are the outer trim pieces and the rest of the steps? i'd appreciate it if you can go into more detail.

bump... the cheapest anyone's willing to do the job for is 108... for that tiny piece of glass... is this is a good/bad price?

Without the right tools, you'll never be able to get it to seal correctly. The right tools will cost you more than $108. Just pay a shop to do it, unless you plan on trying to make money doing window replacements.

The job is relatively straightforward and should not require any special tools:

In this recent thread, I removed and painted the outer moldings on my front doors. Removal of the rear door outer molding is similar.

This non-technical question belongs in the Value Thread, not in this technical forum.

Yes

Correct

Have you purchased the replacement glass yet? Are you buying it new or used?

i have no purchased the glass yet and im planning on getting it used from a junk yard unless if used and new are comparable in price which i doubt. also if the cost is within 20 dollars of having someone else install it, i will just let someone else do it because my time is worth more than 20 dollars. im pretty comfortable taking off the door panel but im afraid of the rest of the process because ive never actually done any of this. hopefully it goes well... any suggestions or problems you foresee me running into that i should know about?

btw thank you for responding.

Buying the quarter glass at a junk yard and replacing it yourself would save you a lot of money.

Do you have an EX, LX, or DX?

The diagram I posted above shows you exactly how to remove the main window glass and the quarter glass. Also read the thread at the link I posted. Just follow the directions and take your time.

The job is relatively straightforward
Here are other diagrams that may help:
