Default Help... Overheating and Not Shifting

I just found this site while trying to search for a solution. I am new here so please be kind. My daughter's car is having serious issues. We need to get this fixed before she losses her job.

Car Info:
1993 Honda Accord EX Coupe
Engine Type: 2.2L L4 SOHC 16V
Transmission: 4-Speed Automatic Overdrive

It has been running pretty good until Saturday.

I am hoping someone can help. My husband is stumped, we called the dealer, they have no idea. We cannot afford a trip to the dealer or anyone else. My husband and a friend know how to repair cars, just this has everyone scratching there head.

It went into "Limp" mode and the temp gauge was reading hot. The car is not running hot. It goes from cold to hot even when first started. We changed the sensor for the fan, temp sensor for the gauge and the one for the ECU, we reset the computer, the temp gauge works when manually tested. It is still reading hot when you turn the ignition key on. We checked all the grounds and they were fine.

We have been told to change the instrument cluster. I am not sure this is needed because the gauge worked when checked manually. If so does anyone know how to get the thing out.

We are stuck, not sure what else to do. HELP!!!! Please, lol.

In the passenger footwell by the kick panel there should be a blue two wire connector. Using a paper clip jump it. Turn the car to ON but do NOT start the engine.
If there are any codes stored the check engine light will blink.

Short blinks are for counts of one and longer blinks are for counts of 10.

Example:
_ _ _ _ = 4
___ ___ ___ ___ = 40
___ ___ ___ ___ _ _ _ _ = 44

The code(s) will repeat watch the blinking until you think you have seen the same pattern a few times. The codes will appear in numerical order.

Were there any new problems or incidents that recently occurred? Any maintenance done? Besides the sensor changes.

There is a bleeder screw/nipple for the coolant on the backside of the engine on the intake manifold. With the car off turn this 1/2 turn and verify that no air is in the system. Keep it open until you have a solid stream.

If the ECU thinks the car is hot it should turn the fans on. Do the fans come on?

IIRC if the gauge in the car malfunctions it should not have any affect on the operation of the drivetrain.

However there are a couple of things that can cause erratic or no shift conditions. One is the TPS has a dead spot or is failing. The TCU for the 90-93 mode Accords is known to have bad capacitors and/or resistors. This is visible when the TCU case is opened.

The link that has the best diagnostic aides is currently down. 'H4A' link in my sig.

We did check the codes and I will ask my husband about that. There were no issues or work done prior to this... the car was running great. When the temp gauge went to hot the car started not to shift. According to Honda the ECU thinks the car is hot and went into limp mode... causing the car to do this. I will ask if he has checked the TPS or replaced it, not sure. This is weird, even Honda was stumped.
