i want a direct swap/changeover, and base RSX engines are cheaper and more plentiful in los angeles than EP3 engines. My 02 si has 250k miles and needs a new engine. I know the intake manifolds and oil pump are different on the base rsx motor, but can everything (manifolds, oil pump etc be changed over? are all the sensors the same? basically is the engine in the RSx identical to the si? is it a direct swap of the oil pump and intake manifold and youre done or is there something else I should be aware of. No i dont want to put an a2 or a k24 or kpro or anything, I want to keep it stock, keep my resale value. thanks..

 

yeah that is pretty much all you need to do. i dont think you have to swap the oil pump though(correct me if im wrong).

 

you could leave the oil pump.

Yea I know the oil pump in the base rsx ep3 is WAY better than the si. i think its a screw type pump. Just hoping everything else sensors, computer, motor mounts etc are all identical. fingers crossed because wrecking yard parts directories do not show they are direct crossovers, but japanese engine exchange places seem to think they are cross compatible..ughh

 

ep3 k20 has a balance shaft on the oil pump.

 

that's definitely a good question. I do know the oil pump on an rsx does produce more pressure which is a good thing!

 

they are tuned differently, the IM being a big part of why. you will need kpro, or a base rsx ecu. possibly a base rsx harness if not using kpro. it'll run without but you will have the dual intake runners CEL.

 

Not if he swaps manifolds over. Internally ie: cams pistons rods crank they are the same engine. So tuning will not differ if he swaps intake manifolds. The car will not notice the difference in my opinion.
