d16y7 timing belt all done, mechanically timed but low compression??? ran fine before
SO YEAH! I just did a timing belt on my 96 civic stock, anyhow
So I get everything back together and we are 100% on time. But it starts and sound like low compression when it started, never had any issues like it before! I am just looking in on some input. It starts but runs like ****. I shut it off because I wanted to be sure that we were on time... yeah we are. Please let me know if you have any input! I would really appreciate it!
Ok so update. I get 100 from #1
75 from #2
under 30 from 3
under 30 from 4.. I think this is terribly weird since.... its on time according to the marks. Any timing has no changed since the belt was installed.
I only did a timing belt job. I checked the wire order and its on.

How do you know there's a compression problem if you didn't do a compression test?
Check whether the plug wires are installed in the wrong firing order on the distributor cap.

I need to take a peek again and see what I get out of it
Comp test was 75 on 2 cylinder cold.

Did you bother compression testing the other 3 cylinders, or did you just go with the one and leave it at that? Are you sure you're doing the test correctly?
If you are, your next step is a leakdown test to figure out where it's leaking from.

Don't know how but you might have possibly miffed up the headgasket or it was about to fail and it's coincidence. Those numbers are BEYOND unhealthy.
Did you do a compression check before you did the work to compare, how was it running before?
Strange all the numbers are that low? Sure you are doing it right?

(I know the crank looks off but its dead on)

You might want to take pictures from the other side of the camshaft and mark the timing marks with something like a sharpie or whiteout so we can see it in the picture. Also the crank pic can use some work.

ok so here is my concern... Its impossible to have both marks on the tab.

These marks on the back of the cam gear line up with the aluminum 100%
did you touch the valves at all? something makes me think you adjusted them too tightly and they are partially open...
Looks pretty good to me from the pictures you've sent. The crank pulley and timing cover aren't always dead on. These two have good advice, you may want to try these suggestions. Leak down test wouldn't hurt either.
Wait. I thought you said timing was 100%? Now, depending on the angle of the pictures, you look to be at least off a tooth.
In my opinion, the cam looks properly set at TDC1. However, I can't evaluate the crank pulley timing because I don't see the lower pointer that must align with the upper pointer like the sight of a gun. I also don't know whether we see the white TDC1 mark on the crank pulley in the picture.

I totally agree on the latter part of your comment. You could see two marks together in the picture, being that those are the only marks you'll usually see on a crank pulley that's enough for me.
Ok so I just took a look at my civic in which I did a timing belt only a few months ago. The marks are 100%. I am super confused. I did not do any valve adjustments. Just a simple pull the belt put a new one on. The marks are on as far as I can tell the crank white out mark is good with TDC. The cam is level with the cylinder head. I am no sure why the intake side cam mark is up so high. It really doesnt make any sense because the 2 marks that are behind the cam cover are 100% in line with the head. I moved the belt 1 tooth and it was WAY off( never started or even spun)
