Default Help me choose a harness :\

I just picked up a Momo carbon/kevlar bucket, and it came with a 5pt harness. It's kind of a cheaper harness (don't remember the brand) and I was looking for somthing with a camlock-type buckle for fastening ease. I checked out soloracer.com, they only seem to have 4pt. models.

I have this brand new harness guide bar (rollcages are just too heavy!) and I don't have a harness to put on it

-What do you recommend, 5 pt, 6 pt.? Doesn't seem like it matters too much, as long as I have at least 1 sub belt.

-Is it correct that the mounting location for the sub-belt should be in line with the driver's spine?

-Can I safely use the cheap 5 pt. on the passenger side, which has a stock ITR seat, and just leave out the sub-belt?

-Who has what I'm looking for, preferably cheap and/or used?

i went with the simpson 5-point camlocks from OG Racing, total price with mounting hardware was $353 (without shipping, i picked them up). Autopower and MMR belts are in the $300 range for the set, Sparcos are about $400.

Sparco 5pt with clip-in hardware ran me $383.58 from OG Racing, including shipping. I bought one pull-down lap belt and one pull-up... just for comparison. I liked the pull-up and use it on the driver's side. I'm using fixed-back buckets though which could be why.

So your own saftey is not worth a lot??? Is this just for auto ex, are you think about doing tack events in the future? are you going to get a cage or roll bar in the future?

I have a rollbar temporarily, plan on putting in a full cage later. I've since found FIA & SFI approved sparco harnesses such as the ones here: http://sportscar-parts.com/spraceblts.htm for under $200. That's more like it.

I'm doing HPDE's and "open tracks" as of now but will be eligable for an SCCA competion lisence in Jan. and plan to start w2w asap.

Just to clarify... .RJ and I were quoting prices for two harnesses. sportscar-parts.com has a decent site, but I'd still recommend http://www.ogracing.com instead. Give them a call and they'll help you get what you need.

I've sold a few of these http://www.soloracer.com/schrothprofi3.html and customers seem to really like them. Pricey, but high quality.

I would recommend a simpson cam lock in either a 5 or 6 point. You should have no problems using a sub belt with a stock seat- I did this in my CRX for several years before upgrading to my race seat. Beware of the inexpensive harnesses- they may or may not have 3" wide belts but may also be a thinner webbing than the Simpson (which are also rewebbable as they age/wear).

You will want the sub close to inline with your body.

Check pegasus or racer wholesale (or parts wholesale) for Simpson- it is your behind on the line...

I found this harness for a kickass price ($85). Think I'm gonna go with it.
