First of all , this is not my car I'm trying to help a friend here . He just bought the 90 DX hatch Auto and now he decided to covert to Manual . I have go thru a few thread here in our forums but couldnt find the right answers . Anyways, he was asking if he takes the tranny 5spd and all the parts ( shift linkage , cable, ecu , mounts, cluster ) from the 90 sedan ... Will they work with his 90 hatch DX? I guess the question is which model will fit his hatch and which don't ? I'm new to this too so treat me like a beginner .

yes it will mount up, although you may have to repin the gauge cluster

 

Thanks for your info Red-rocket but another question for you , is it just only the 90 sedan 5spd tranny will fit his 90 hatch? I'm worry about the shift linkage ... Might be too long? For the cluster , how do I repin that?

 

Yes everything will fit from the sedan. Even the guage cluster plug Nd play. No need for repining anything. 90-91 interchange cluster..

 

Awesome ... We are on the way to the junkyard now . How about the clutch cable and pedals assembly ( pedal,brake,accelerator)?

yes everything from the sedan will fit. from what you listed.. trans,cluster,shift linkage..

 

Make sure you get the right clutch for the tranny and also auto ecu will have a cel manual ecu will not

 

Do you mean the clutch from that sedan tranny ? Can you be more specific? Also we will get the cluster from the 90 5spd sedan one so I don't think there will be an issue .

 

You have to get a clutch that has the same # splines as on the input shaft. Just get the same year clutch and flywheel as the trans.

 

Oh ok . How about the mount ? Can we still use the mount that came off from that 90 sedan on his hatch or do we have to buy the new one? What are my options here?

 

everything will bolt up.... even the clutch. yes the mounts will bolt up also.

 

Make sure to get the rear braket and mount bc the auto one is diff.

Update: we already got these parts below,

1) 90 sedan 5spd tranny
2) ECU
3) shift linkage
4) clutch cable
5) clutch pedals ( clutch/brake/accelerator)
6) all mounts ( front , rear and side . Also got the braket too)

7) 90 5spd cluster ( still looking)

What else do we need?

 

you will need to move the mount on the rear crossmember 1 hole over. i cant remember if its to the right or left but if you havent touched it yet, just move it over 1 hole.

yes stock speedo cable will work.

you will need to get a manual accelerator cable. unless you switch the auto pedals to your manual pedals.

We are about to install the clutch/brake/accelerator components, what do you do with the neutral switch in order for us to start the car and no we dont have the cruise control on his hatch ? I went thru a thread on our forums and they guy said connect two big black wire from the starter ? i didnt get that part.....

 

Leave the white neutral safety swith where auto shifter would go it's extra security, unplugged car won't start plugged and in park or neutral car will start.

 

Ok but what about the two wires on the new neutral safety switch from the manual clutch pedal that we are about to install? Where do I need to connect those to? We do not want to bypass that ..just want to make sure here.

 

Don't need them those are just for when you go to start the car press the clutch in. Without them wired no need to press clutch to start the car.
