Default oil presure problem please help

ok i have a d16zc sohc vtec in my crx. i parked my car last night and it was fine and today when i started it to come home i had the oil light on. i checked my oil 4 times on my 10 mile drive home and every time it was at the same level and wasnt low. about a 1/4 inch below the top dot on the dip stick. there is between 50k and 70k on my engine. i am hoping oil filter is clogged and will be changing that when i can get a ride to get a filter and oil. my radiator had a hole in it and i had to make a 30 mile drive and refilled it 2 times and because of that it overheated for maybe 5 miles tops on the drive and i was wondering if this could cause my oil pump to fail? with lower miles i dont think so but just curious.

Thanks in advance for any ideas on this problem.

ok i know the zc is similar to the d16z6 and i cant find where the oil sender unit is for the zc so i looked up for the z6. from what i could find the z6 unit is to the left of the oil filter.
on my zc block i have nothing. please help. not having a car is killing me and i cant drive mine because i fear the light. i have read to pull the sender unit out and clean it to see if that helps. and if that doesnt then to get a manual gauge and test it by screwing it into the sender units hole. then if i dont have pressure then its mostlikely my pump. im just trying to go over the cheaper options first. thanks again to anyone who can help me on this

i just read on another forum that having a dent in the oil pan can cause there to be problems with the pump having enough room to draw the oil up. just curious if this actually could be the case?

Can you take a pic of the back of the block. Normally there is a one wire switch for the oil light.

and to the left of the oil filter there isnt anything with a wire that running to it that i can find. i stuck my hand up and and felt around to where i couldnt see and there isnt anything from filter to the alt. also the pictures are kinda bad if i do upload them. phone doesnt have flash so im trying to wedge a flashlight and take a picture. is it likely that it somehow undid from it when i bottomed out since i cant see a wire going to anything on the left

If you unplug the wire the light should go out. Check to see if it does first.

Check and make sure the sump isn't clogged up with something, had the same problem and thats what it was. It was clogged up with old gasket glue.

if you are running the engine with the light 'ON', chances are you have less than 5psi oil pressure and will almost certainly damage the engine.

Light comes on=Shut it down!!

Thats if the OPS (oil press sensor) is in working condition. Thats why I said to unplug it to see if it stays on.

how would i see if the sump is clogged? i bottomed out the night before the light came on so it might have knocked some of that glue loose or something. do i take the oil pan off? and i havent ran it much since the light came on. i limped it home at under 2k rpm and idled it for a short time to see if it was the oil filter after i changed my filter. other than that nothing. hoping it wasnt to long though. any way to check if any damage was done? there arent any noises that i could hear when it was idling

You got to pull off the pan, check the screen in the sump. Did you check the light with the sensor unplugged?

pull the pan and check the screen, you might have bent something if you bottomed it out.

yup i unpluged the wire and the light went out. that means the sensor is good correct? and to pull my oil pan off do i have to pull the bottom part of my headers off? or can i just slide it out to the side?

More than likely yes the sensor is good, to pull the pan you need to remove the header. Honestly id put the sensor in and see if the light goes out but seeing as you dented your pan id bet you thats the culprit.

so the pan its self with the dent is no good and is the culprit? or because it dented it probably knocked something up into the screen?

You dented the pan correct? How bad? Its it a very small dent or something significant? Post a pic using photobucket, once you get it uploaded scroll on to the pic and in the drop down menu click on the last (IMG CODE) it will copy the link then paste it into your reply.

alright will do im going down now to pull it off. i just got out of work. and idk it doesnt look bad to me. but first car i have ever really worked on so i dont know what bad is. it is pretty much the bottom dented up like a 1/4 inch. like a really small slope in over the whole bottom part. so idk how bad that is but its noticeable to the eye. i will pull it off and clean it up some and post a pic soon. depending on how long this takes

Try the sensor first, ive dented a pan pretty good and never had a problem. Id replace the sensor first then go from there.

i did i put the new sensor in and same thing. so i took the pan off. nothing clogging the screen. but the crease of the dent was directly in line with the slit thing that has the screen in it. and from how much i dented it in it seems like there wouldnt have been much going through it at all since the worst part of the dent was right at the sump thing.

i have a 91 sedan parts car it has a d15b2 in it. is there any chance the pan from that would fit so i can try to see if it was just the pan? or does it have to be a d16 zc or z6 pan. or would like a y8 or y7 pan fit also?

or would i be able to bend out my old pan? or is that a bad idea since bending metal weakens it
