Default Turning this into Ford-Tech (Mustang build)

Hoping to see some people from H-T out on the track, I'm working with another guy to build and race a new Mustang. This is a 2011 that was bought brand new from the dealership, drove 100 miles back to the house and tore down. This year we're running T3, we'll be switching classes next season, donno if we want to run T2 or American Sedan.

Luckly this tire blew up as the car was leaving impound and not on the track!

We're setting it up right now for June Sprints, I'll make it a point to get some newer, decent pictures of the car this time.

I didnt know rpf1s were for Imports only lol? Race cars are about function, if you have ever had to try to make weight or be right at it to be able to compete then you dont give 2 poops about what rim or look.

Awesome! is that the V6 with 305hp? I would love to see more of this setup, I know T* is pretty limited on mods to a point.

Exactly, the wheels were cheap and when you're trying to foot the bill and be as competitive as possible you could give two ***** about what your wheels look like; as long as they're the right size and they're a good weight.

Yeah, that's the newest 3.7 V6, we're waiting to see what rules allow for us next year before we decide what direction to go with the thing.

As far as the solid axle goes, it gets a lot worse of a wrap then what it deserves, it's actually quite predictable. I wouldn't mind bending the tubes though to camber the rear a little but other then that, it works well enough.

I have debated the solid rear axle with a friend that built a lotus super 7 with an rx7 solid rear axle. He made some good points about some of the cars that have had them have been some of the best handling cars. I believe r500 utilizes one as well.

Ford has come along way, the Laguna Seca Boss shows it

We put a Go Pro in the car but mounted it on the dash which, come to find out vibrates pretty badly, we'll mount it on the roof next weekend and I'll post it up.

Made it down to the Sprints today and got everything setup. A few small issues that still needed ironed out but we're ready to qualify tomorrow morning.

Got out on the track today, my driver did some work to the car before we got there and I didn't really check it over. Prepped for practice, got the car out there, it made one lap and there was so much smoke behind him he thought he blew the engine. Pressures were normal, engine sound was fine so he wheeled it back into our bay and I found out the diff. vent he put on popped off. No big deal, I cranked down on that sucker and she's not moving, had to completely degrease under the car and the back of the car though. Swapping out all four pads and the front rotors for qualifying in 5 hours and when we were taking the calipers off, we had one of the bolts break that hold the rear caliper to the pin. DAAAAMMMNNNNIT, so we take off and just head straight to a Ford dealer, they call around and they've got one in Madison! They get a driver to get it for us and we get a call 2 hours before qualifying "Come get it!" SWEET!

So we get the brakes on, set everything down and finish prep for qualifying. Driver goes out to qualify, everything seems dandy until he can smell diff fluid. There's no smoke so we figure the vent tube running to the home made "catch can" came off, no big deal. He finishes qualifying a little slow, he's still working into his groove and we can make it up tomorrow during the second round of qualifying. So he runs off to get weighed, they messed up and lost his tech card (found it in group 9, we're group 1). After he got weighed and they're looking for his card I pop open the back to see how much diff fluid got out, it's a small lake in the trunk, it got inside the rear window, I mean it just got evveerryywhere inside the damn car.

Get real catch can... now...

Spent another solid hour degreasing the interior of the car, bought a catch can from a vendor over here and installed that, prepped car for tomorrow and here we sit...

Blah...

Here's the lake:

We had some issues in 1st round qualifying and ended up getting stuck in the middle of some Miatas that didn't know how to get out of the way for 2nd round qualifying. Last picture is of us finishing 3rd. We were about to lap the Integra, there was an S2000 that finished 2nd and a VW GTI that took 1st. The S2000 was built by HART and the GTI was built in Germany by VWs race team. But you can see the Z4 and the Civic we passed, wait until I post up the GoPro video though, the Z4 dive bombed us and passed us around one corner so we let the civic slip by (separate race class, they were battling for first) but the civics tires were bad and it was getting out of control so we just passed them back up. There's one point in time where the civic was full on sideways, guy said his life flashed before his eyes because he could see this Mustang coming at him at 100mph. As the Mustang passed, both drivers looked at each other and the civic driver just threw up his hands and shrugged, almost a "Whoops" kind of a thing .

We're going to run one more size up on the Hoosiers for the remainder of the racing season, even running the R6 the car is so heavy it just tears them up.

June Sprints video. It had rained on me when I was putting gas in it and the GoPro case was open, so there's a little smudge and humidity in the case. Also, there at first when the cars are accelerating, the tranny hit the gates and blocked 3rd for a second.

I ran a Mustang many years ago in track days and autocross. I took the rear housing out of the car, and disassembled it, and then used a hacksaw to cut 7/8ths the way through the axle tubes just as they went into the housing pot. That provided enough room to bend the axle tubes up, and then I had it re-welded, at the new angle.

I gained about .7-.8 degrees of negative camber - enough to help, but not enough to be noticed. I never had an issue with bearings, and it worked well enough to create more grip.
