Default Viper 350hv Alarm

Hey guys, need some advice.

I had an alarm installed in 2004 in my 1996 Integra SE by a company called Tweeter

In 2008 they went out of business!

Since then until 2011 my alarm worked just fine

in 2011 it started acting up. It would Arm/Lock every time no problem, but at random times it would not disarm/unlock. Sometimes after a few tries it would start working, but sometimes it would just not work for the rest of the day.

Its not a daily driver, so I just ignored it.

Now It rarely, and I mean rarely works at all, lock or unlock.

A buddy of mine (installer for a stereo shop) told me it sounds like the brain, and that they have a lifetime warranty on their brains, so I called them.

Warranty my ***! the guy wanted the physical receipt from back in 2004... yea right!

I did some looking and I found the transaction on my bank records showing Merchant information, Reference Number, MCC Description, Transaction date, Posting date, Transaction type, Amount, and Currency... Well this wasn't good enough, the Jerkoff actually wants the yellow piece of paper to honor the warranty.

So he offered for me to send it in, along with 45$, and wait 10-14 weeks turn around for any possible warranty service. I told him to shove it up his a$$, and to notate on my account (I had to give full credentials, name, address, phone number, etc before he would even discuss the issue) that this customer wouldn't buy their crap again!

Anyways so there's Option 1!

I called a my closest Viper Distributor, and explained my situation. He said he could get the brain switched out for me, BUT I would have to pay him a 45$ labor charge to do it. I asked what the labor charge would be for, and he said before he would send it off, he would have to make sure it was bad. I asked him if he had some kind of tester, and he said no, basically he would have to see it "Not lock/unlock the door" before he would push the warranty thru... And letting him see for his self that pushing a button does nothing, will cost me 45$!

So thats Option 2!

I can buy the complete alarm New for just 5 more dollars!!

But before I do, I want to make sure it is in fact the alarm.

All I know is that I can sit in the car, and manually lock and unlock the doors with no issues, but hit the button on the alarm, and you get only a chirp, and a click from the brain. (I assume its a relay for the beep). I unhooked the brain today to bring it in the house in case anyone needed numbers, and when i reinstalled it, it worked for like 2 times both locking and unlocking, but as I got excited thinking it was just loose, inevitably it stopped working again.

What do you guys think?
Anyway I can test this thing?
Help?!?!
Thanks!!!

So I understand, your pissed at whoever, [DEI authorized dealer or warranty provider] because he wants to see a proof of purchase before he does something that could cost him time and money, correct so far?

Your also bent because a retail dealer, [who you did not get the alarm from] wants $45 in labour, to check the alarm, [keeping in mind only the alarm brain has the lifetime warranty] and send it in for possible warranty.

Another question, because you did not say, when was the last time you replaced the batt. in your remote(s)?

One more, how did your buddy the installer come to the conclusion that it was an alarm brain problem, did he do a diagnostic, [check wiring, check alarms ground, make sure alarm ant. was properly plugged in, check batt. in remote(s), check programing]?

I bet the guy charging you $45 was going to do a diagnostic, [definatly more then just push a button] I would have.

Last question, did you?

If answer to all the above is yes, blow the extra $5 and get yourself a brand new alarm with brand new remotes, carefull, if your not buying from an authorized DEI dealer, your going to have warranty problems, the day you open the box. 94
