Default 98 dx - battery light came on, now more problems

i drove my car to the park yesterday and it sat for a couple hours before i got in it again, when i started it up the battery light came on but still everything ran like normal i even stopped by the store before i got home, right before i was about to park it the battery light just turned off by itself, this morning when i started my car the light came back on so i took it to autozone to have the battery checked and they told me it was at 66% so they could'nt check the alternator the guy told me to just drive it around and maybe that would charge it back up, so i did just that and as i was driving the car around the battery ligh keep flashing and for moments turning off by it self then the iddle started jumping up and down and just a few moments ago as i was driving home from a friends house i noticed that as i was braking the tach and speedo (battery light still flashing) would drop all the way down to zero and when i accelerated againg they would go back to normal, any ideas on what i have to do or check???

Then, check the alternator.

A problem with the charging system (alternator), not a bad battery, would cause the charging system light (battery symbol in cluster) to turn on.

Check whether the alternator belt is loose and also have the alternator tested. Auto parts stores will usually charge your battery at no cost.

yeah i think thats the problem because a few minutes ago i swiched the batteries from my cars but the light still came on and yesterday when i took it to autozone the guy told me that because the battery tested ok (with their testor) that it would not allow it to test the alternator so i'm just going to take the alternator out and take it to them like that so they can check it

Did you check to see if the belt was loose/slipping?
