I have a o4 ep3 si, k&n intake, megan testpipe and blackworks catback, and out of nowhere I started burning oil, a week ago I checked it and it was fine, I use nothing but full synthetic, there is about 2000 miles since the last oil change, and sunday i felt like my throttle response was a little funny but didn't think anything of it, today I checked my oil and I was 2.2 quarts low! I got the car up and NO LEAKS, didnt see any oil in the coolant, by the time I filled it up and drove about 20 miles I was a half quart low, I can smell a burning smell in the engine bay, I blow a SMALL amount of smoke when I rev it high, I dont know what could be wrong besides maybe I blew a piston ring, I autocross this car so it gets driven hard, but I take VERY GOOD CARE OF IT, I work at valvoline and I purchased the car about two months ago and its had a full fuel system cleaning, coolant flush, new oil, transmission flush, etc. Never had a problem until sunday, please give me all the advice you can guys, I am stumped and broke, its burning oil, I just dont know how to diagnose it, I threw in half a quart of lucas full syn oil treatment tonight.

 

Compression / leakdown test should tell u what's up. 20 miles and u lose half quart damn I would think it would be smoking like crazy. Good luck bro

 

definitely need to run a compression test....

pull your plugs also and see if they are soaked in oil or not

 

I am buying a compression tester in about 15 minutes, going to wait a few hours to let the block know then I will let you guys know what compression im running at, anyone know the ideal compression psi?

 

doesn't matter... just need to make sure all 4 cylinders are within range of eachother

so 180 185 180 180 would be good

and 180 150 185 180 would be bad

 

well i have a problem, I got the compression tester into the first cylinder and tested it at about 168psi, then I went to remove it and it is stuck, everything i try to twist it out just spins the rubber hose and it coils it, I let the engine sit for about 2 hours until it was barely warm, any tips on how to get it out without having to take the valve cover off etc.?

 

I looked at the spark plugs and there is no oil burning through the combustion chamber so I am STUMPED.

O ok its still stuck lol that sucks. The compression on the ep3 si is 10:1 right, if so 168 is a lil low . Have to wait and see what u get on the other cylinders ..
