Mystery diagnosis
Here's what happened-
My 92 auto accord died out while driving up a hill!
Symptoms:
1. While driving, I could here this slight vibrating/rattling noise, not quite sure if it where it was coming from, but it only happened around a precise range, I think I remember it to be between 25-30 mphs.
This sound began about a day prior, and it was during this range of speed that it died out.
2. it made a pretty loud scary snapping sound as it died, like a "pakk!" kind of thunky too.
3. Upon turning the key to restart a very wierd whirring sound is made, NOT like the engine just won't engage, but a sound that could basically be understood by anybody as "this ****ing things not starting until it's fixed."
-what do you think it is? Could it be one of the belts snapped? I had transmission issues, I just really want to know if it's the transmission or not, but the car won't start at all now so I feel like it might b something else.

Is the starter still attached?
Pull the cam cover and remove the cam sprocket cover and make sure the belt is still in one piece.
If that checks out fine, crawl under the car and remove the inspection cover for the TC, and make sure the bolts are still attached.
A damaged automatic transmission would not cause the engine not to start. Unless the transmission was replaced and the bolts between the drive plate(flex plate) and torque converter were not correctly torqued and sheered off. The starter ring gear engages the TC not the drive plate. If those bolts are missing or sheared the starter would spin the TC but not the engine.
