Hey,

Everyone So the last couple of days when i have been driving my 92 honda civic hatchback dx. i got a bad wiff of smog. It wasn't gasoline smell, or even that smell when rubber is burning. but that there's two much pollution in the air. I previously installed a new long pipe from the catty and added a new muffler, The mechanic sugguested it had something to do with the fuel pump but i doubt it. Can anyone suggest any ideas?

My best guess is the Catty needs to be replaced

 

What does smog smell like? When installing the new exhaust parts did you get them greasy/oily?

Does it smell like rotten eggs?

 

usually new exhaust will smell for a few days. its all the anti corrosion stuff (from preventing it rusting in the warehouse) burning off for the first time.

 

Any engine performance, gas mileage, or CEL code problems?

 

if it happened as soon as you put on exhaust i would say give it afew days becasue like 92lxsleeper said it has a coating that stinks when it is burning off catalytic converters smell like rotten eggs when they are bad

Not like rotten eggs, Just pure smog pollution like the really thick black smell
but yes they were greasy, oily at least the muffler the pipe was new

 

The Exhaust was put in a month ago, this problem started about a week ago,

The car hesitates sometimes when starting it up and driving off a parking lot i step on the gas and it wont responded till second laters were it will.

I have noticed that when i put gas it used to reach the half point way but now its a bit under when purchasing the same amount o gas

So After getting a buddy to lend me his jacks,

I found a paper bag on my pipe, that has be burning,

Now i understand the importance of recycling thanks guys.
