Default my hood vent...or at least trackside bbq

picked up a new hood so i could mess with some venting (didn't want to cut up my cf hood since it's in decent shape). threw some spray bomb on it today and bolted it up. at any rate i'll be able to grill up some steaks on it!

going to take a drive tomorrow to get some data.

Needs a lid to keep in the flavor.

Do you have a lip at the leading edge? You may be scooping up air into the engine bay if not. Not sure if this is what you were after.

i did the mesh because i thought it would be better than a big hole with no kind of covering. in retrospect i wish i would have tried to copy some of the others i've seen where the back edge curls down. i could just take out the mesh, square off the rear corners, slice down the sides a few more inches and curl the rear edge down.

leading edge is just flat right now. wanted to see what it would do as is and planned on adding a lip at the leading edge, but i might just do what i stated above.

didn't seem to aid in cooling at all...maybe i'll have to go back to a ghetto spacer on the hinge setup :-P

Through trial and error comes success.
Looks good, just have to play with it a little to make it more functional.

You would need to create a low pressure area behind the leading edge
to allow the air flowing over the hood to "pull" air out from under the
hood, otherwise its not doing much with just a hole in your hood.
The lip "down" in the trailing edge will only help if the leading edge has a "up"
lip as they work in tandem.

The hood spacers do work for cooling if you are having over heating issues.

i was thinking i could get away with lipping down the trailing edge because of what others have done. i thought the slope of the eg hood would count as a lip on the leading edge or maybe i have my opening too far back to utilize the shape of the hood. thanks for the input. i'll keep messing with it. fyi, the pic below is what i was going off of for curling down the trailing edge.

the vent will also work best if you seal the area around the sides of the radiator and up in front of it to create a high pressure in front of it and hopefully high pressure through and behind it, this air then flows out the hole.

That's definitely on the list. I am making 1 change at a time so that I can see what helps/hurts. Then u can share and maybe help someone else out. I already started cutting out some foamcore board to layout ducting and blockoff plates.

i'll post pics and results when i change it up. for now i moved on to getting the most air directed thru the front, so i'm working out what i need to box in the front and duct everything behind the bumper. will most likely make everything out of abs plastic since it's pretty durable and easy to work with.

here's a pic of the foamcore templates for the front of the bumper. it was too hot out to work on any of the other ducting :-P
