My speedometer stopped working, but the needle gives random bursts at random times. Every other gauge works but the speedometer and odometer. What can this possibly be?

I think it might be the speed sensor but I'm not sure.

And would a 97 civics speed sensor work on my 95 civic?

 

Speed sensor,wiring or ur cluster. Check to see if plug came out of sensor. D series speed sensors r all the same i believe. auto and manuel r diff. Though

 

thats sounds like a bad speed sensor or a dirty connection on the sensor
