if you work on cars as well as you know how to post pics, then no wonder your engine broke

Not good. Will Toda pay for damages or what?

Why should Toda pay for damages?

It will be nearly impossible to prove that the cams were defective. Installation error will be assumed to be the culprit.

Sorry this happened to you, but you're SOL.

Race parts have no warranty.

that's gay. I've also heard a lot about the JUN cams either breaking or shredding timing belts. If the guys at Toda were cool, the least they could do is throw a new cam your way or something.I doubt they'll lose any money

I would think they could help him out considering he just paid who knows how much for a set of cams, and one breaks under normal driving conditions and the engine isn;'t even broken in!b>

sorry to say, but everytime I hear about people breaking cams, whether it be toda, jun, skunk, stock type R or whatever, I tend to believe overtightening on the cam bolt or you used an impact wrench to tighten.

Sorry, but cams don't just BREAK...

You shoulda tightened them to 20 ft. lbs for the 12mm bolts and 7.2 ft. lbs for 10mm bolts....

Here's the problem...unless you have an inch\pound torque wrench that clicks...it's near impossible to get your torque specs right. I guarantee that your torque specs were wrong on the 10mm bolts without an in\lb wrench.

i dont hear of TODA cams breakin very often. i hear of JUNs, SKUNK2 and CROWER breaking. i hear of TODA cams shredding timing belts. never had any problems with my JUN cams and i guarantee my T belt is on tighter than stock specs. when the motor is running the T belt just moves smooth, no flop at all. ive installed my JUN cams, springs, retainers in 2 different heads and had no problems at all. everyone assumes installation error but its more likely that a bad batch had been sent out of any of these cams. how many of these cams have been made??? a whole hell of alot. seems that when i see posts on any cam breaking i see other posts pop up about the same time w/ the same results.

i always cringe when i hear or see pics of snapped cams, that just sux.

I'm sorry to hear about what happened and this seems to happem way too often no matter who made the cam.

I'm trying to pin down what goes wrong for so many people.
When you installed the cam did you back off all of the way on the valve adjuster screws?
Also, were the bolts holding the cams tightened in several steps?

Thank you for the info. I hope things work out for you.

John

Is it possible that the camshaft was dropped or "mishandle" before installation? Because of metal hardness, these thing are very fragile and could of cracked during an impact shock.

This is SO true. Even ft/lbs torque wrenchs with a scale of 0-50 aren't accurate at 10lbs or less.

And if you used a wrench with a scale that started at 10ft/lbs you aren' accurate until about 25ft lbs.

Just ask all the people that have broken valve cover studs.

you cant use a torque wrench when installing cams. send it to toda and pray that they help you out,

and how you guys talk about never hearing todas breaking you also never hear about them replacing, I have 2 friends that have/had no clue on what they were doing that had juns break and they sent them back to jun, and they recived replacements with the quickness.

stories such as toda withdrawling their type R from the bidding on ebay and little difficulties that friends have had with them makes ME steer away from that company

BUT above all THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION

im sticking with JUN

I am not sure what you mean by this...you definitly can and must use a torque wrench when installing camshafts.
