I was just woundering how many people out there got there (JDM) b16 to pass smog and if so what did you do before the test.........

One more thing i think the engine that i have is an 1989 xsi and i have a 1991 dx hatch, Now what problems am i going to run into when trying to smog it??

Newer car older engine??? I heard a couple bad things about that...

 

hopefully they won't motice its an older motor. if they ask you, lie your *** off!!!

 

All I did was replace my cat, did a complete tune-up, and used premium fuel. Passed with flying colors.

 

Tell them you broke the timing belt broke and the HEAD is an 89, but the engine is originally a 92 or something The head is the only thing that has a date stamp, right?

That should get you off the older engine/newer car thing.

Probably people who don't live in an 'Enchanced Smog Check II' area (like Sacramento).

 

IN Maryland, they don't care if the motor is older than the car as long as the OBD is the same or higher. You could call and ask them if it matters.

 

Is it true that if you car fails test only, that the next time you have to test only your car, the DMV assigns you to a specific station to go to? I am talking about here in CA.

a few months ago i didnt pass the smog check and the mechanic told me i had 1 week to try to fix my car to get it to pass smog,,,or it would be labeled a gross poluter,,it passed the next test,,,,i live in san francisco

 

i passed with a 525HC level

 

i passed with flying colors and i had ctr cams and type r throttle body

 

where?!?! im in pasadena....but you have to go to the ref for the swap...is that what you did? unless you had a hook up

 

you can get the motor ref but i just went to a test only and it passed,i got a gsr motor now and ill smogged it yesterday and it passed,im in city of industry

 

and you were running OBD0?

 

It sounds like you are just lucky. Technically, nobody but the ref can smog a swapped motor. I guess that they just didn't care where you went.
