Icon2 Difference Between an AT and MT Rad?

I`m going to be ordering my aluminum rad for my EJ1 in the next week. I have a few in mind but they say MT only. Is there a differenct between the AT and MT rads? I have an EJ1 with an auto D16Z6..

I've never seen an aftermarket aluminum rad for an auto. Then again, I wasn't looking. You would have to run a separate cooler.

Swap it. Nothing to it.

But why do you need a radiator that has a higher cooling efficiency? Or are you just looking for a smaller radiator to make room?

Trying to make room. I could just go the cheap route and just get a slim fan...would that make more sense?

No. The shroud on the OEM fan is what makes the difference.

The fan/shroud is one piece. You cannot just remove the shroud. Even if you could you would lose a lot of cooling capacity.

You could but you will probably get the same result, reduced cooling capacity. The shroud is what makes the fan more efficient. If you do, don't throw the old fan away.

How about using an external atf cooler? You could mount it as you would an intercooler.

Why not just use another OEM a/t rad. What do you need to make room for? It's an auto D-series?????

I want to clean up the engine bay a bit. After 17 years, it deserves to be nice looking again. And yes, I had no choice since my dad got the car in `96 off a lease.

Im not knocking the fact that it's an auto. Mine is auto. It's just that there is no performance reason to do this.

If it's just for looks then you will have to do as stated above and run an external ATF cooler. Good luck
