Default Non-socketed P72 ecu?

Is it possible to have a chipped ecu that isn't socketed? I'm not the biggest expert on this subject. There's a guy selling a chipped p72 ecu (the picture he sent me shows an sst chip) and he claims it has a stock map with 2 step set at 4k rpms. If this is possible, is there any real disadvantage to it not being socketed? Any input is much appreciated.

It has to be socketed to be chipped.

It does not have to be socketed to be chipped. U can sodder the chip strait to the board. The socket just gives u the option to change chips as needed.

I too thought it had to be socketed to have a chip. The picture the guy sent me looked like the chip was soldered directly to the circuit board. Thanks for the info. Also, is there anything in the place of the chip on a virgin ecu? or is it just bare circuit board?

There is nothing in that spot on the board from the factory accept a nice little spot thats ready for a socket or chip. Honda was nice enough to leave us honda guys a spot to play!

It's the same thing. Only idiots would solder the chip right into the ecu board.

It's Rare but some honda ECU's are Chipped from the factory. if ther is a coating of reson on the chipps it came from the factory that way.

Just put socket in a buddy's 93 Teg ECU Hebught the car from his dad as a second owner and it has never had any mods till now and when i opened the ECU it had a chip in the board. but JP1 was missing. i pulled the bin from the chip i pulled and it's a match for the B17 maps i have
