6-8 point cage, or take everything out and spot weld the car.

on a serious note, if you car is flexing that bad, might be time to find a new shell.

If you have the skills to fabricate and know the regulations then go for it.
I read that you mentioned buying a welder and tube bender that tells me either you never built a cage or you used to.

If you are taking your first stab at welding pick an easier project. Tube benders cost mad cash. My tubing die and follower alone costed 450'n built my own bender with plans from gottrikes.com
I ended up spending about a grand total on that set up. My home welder is a lincoln 180 mig which I love because I got it for 500 brand new (ebay auction ftw!).
Then there is tube notching. I got a crappy harbor fright deal for 25 bux that worked good until the bronz bearing went to shat and started notching sloppy.. Then I said "f" it and took a risk on a knock off plasma cutter which works awesome for notching and clean cuts 1/4 plate no prob I only had a switch go out on it no biggie.

I got carried away but what I'm trying to say is that if you have the money and want to buy the toys to fabricate more stuff later on go for it.
Tools are never a waste of money imo. But if it is just for that one job I say buy a pre bent bolt in cage. There are reputable dealers on ebay and it won't cost you near as much as buying all the tools and paying for welding classes so you can weld uniform beads with good penetration and not end up on the "worse fab pics" thread.
