Viper 790 2 way any info.
i work at circuit city as an insataller and i plan on installing one of these alarms in my car to replace my viper800esp cause i want the lcd and 2 way remote w/ the new one.. what can you do w/ this alarm? its only 4 channels, can i get a channel expander and use that? no one knows anything on this alarm cause its soo new and dei was closed already when i tried calling them saturday.. we dont have them in stock yet but ill get one tues from another store.. thanks
Practically speaking it is a 550ESP, the wiring harnesses and brains are interchangeable. Only two channels like the 550, you'll need a channel expander to match the 800ESP.
It is a 550 series alarm with upgraded software for 2 way comunication with remote...will still code learn green led remotes...have sold and installed 3..not much is different except only comes with a single LCD remote ( I have been selling
the regular ones as a backup..I wonder what the price of that LCD model will be..I'm placing bets on $150-200..something to think about)
have fun...its plug and play

cool thanks everyone.. im gonna get it tues and have my manager order a channel expander as well.. is it true that you lose some range on the antenna w/ a channel expander?? im a new installer and take all the good advice that people can give me while im learning.. and good thing i got extra green led remotes cause they cost 50 each and i bet the lcd will cost atleast 3 times that
audioroach what do you think of the two way on it? is it a nice alarm.. i like how it is plug and play and i will not need to rewire much of the alarm. (except those channels im losing)
thanks

A channel expander uses an existing aux channel on your system to trigger it. It does not have its own receiver, so the range will dependent on your existing system. I dont see how it could affect your range since its just an optional accessory that is being controlled by one of your auxilary outputs.
If you are referring to the DEI 450T, I've had 2 of those on my Prelude for many years now. Works flawless! All of the outputs can be programmed for pulse, validity, and latched. You can even program some to be latched and RESET when ignition is turned on, then off.
Its a very nice piece, although I recommend putting the functions you use the most on the lower numbered channels so you dont have to sit there and "chirp" through all the "levels".
For instance, to activate my strobes underneath my seats, I just push my auxilary channel 3 times. Each time I push it, it chirps. After I'm done pushing, the system responds back with 3 chirps and then activates channel 3. So that would mean I would have to push it 6 times and wait for it to chirp back to me 6 chirps for channel 6.
Thats why I recommend you put your most used functions first. My Prelude is now retired, I used to DEMO that system to customers everyday. I had a total of 15 auxilary outputs on that system. 12 from the two expanders, plus the extra ones that came with the Viper Ultra 800.
CompuStar just came out with a channel expander for their systems. I have not got a chance to use it yet. Most people are just tickled pink with what the CompuStar can already do.
On the latest B17 GSR swapped CRX Im doing, I will be installing the latest CompuStar with the new expander. I'll let you know how it goes.
Have fun with the possibilites of a expander. Remember, the expander is only transistorized outputs. Im sure you knew that since you are an installer.

Ziyad?
already got the 790 installed and its very nice.. remote isnt a big as i thought it was going to be but its still a little bulky but over all im impressed w/ the alarm itself.. it pretty much all plug and play only had minimal rewiring to do..
Well seem you got your answer before i was able to respond...I'm glad you like it...it works just like a regular 550 series...it just talks back to you...way cool
As Handcommand stated you can use the 450T channel expander (or even the 450R...its learn capable...but only if you convert the remote to standard 4 button operation)...really cool piece..i have the 450R sitting in my bag of trix will probably put it to good use now.
I havent contacted DEI on this but is the CAR*COM systems still avail and in use?
Hey 95Civic..since you want to do cool things look into the V60...ask about it..i know the green 4 button have 15 channels imagine 60 on one transmitter.
