Starter does not turn over
So, here's my situation: 1990 Civic 1500 cc engine. We loaned the car to some friends to use, and a few days later, stopped turning over. He assumed it was battery (it was five years old), got battery replaced to no avail. He is able to start it by pushing it.
We have 12 volts on the positive cable at the solenoid. We have about 11 volts on the terminal end of the black/ white wire when ignition switch is turned to start position. Voltage drops to zero if you release the clutch (making me think the clutch switch is operable).
The thing puzzling me is when I attach the black/ white wire and test it plugged on the solenoid, it drops down to about 8 volts.
We removed the starter and had it tested at O'Reilly's and it tested fine. We do have a car about an hour away that we can scavenge a starter from to try that.
Any other help out there?
