My h23 pan(steel) fits on my h22a4(aluminium) but the oil pickup is in a slightly different location. I have also heard of people having oil pressure issues with using a steel h22 pan on a late model h22 meant for an aluminium pan.

I havent tried using a f22 pan before but it may not be as simple as will it bolt up.

f22 and h22 share the same oil pan for the 92-97 h22 after that the 98 plus h22a4 have bigger main bearings so i don't know if the pan fits those.

The oil pick up (aka oil strainer) for all the F22A*, F22B*, H22A1, H22A4 and H23A1 are the same. 15220-P0A-C00 If there seem to be oil pressure issues. I'm not sure how it would come from the oil pan and pickup.

F22A*, F22B*, H22A1 and H23A1 all use the same steel oil pan. Part number 11200-PT0-010. Difference in the H22A4 is that it is aluminum.

I havent had any oil problems, but ive always used the pan that came with the motor. Ive never looked up part numbers but found 3-4 different threads on multiple sites with issues from using the wrong pan. Dont have any saved because I dont see any reason to mix and match. Always been a "do it right guy" not a "that will do" one. If I have time ill try to measure the difference between a aluminium pan and a steel one but could be a few days before I have a chance. Could be none.

OK so here is the real question then, which one has the benefits, steel or aluminum?

Is the aluminum lighter & run cooler than the steel one?

I'm not exactly a "that will do" guy by any means. However, if one is shown to perform better or have some sort of benefit over the other. Than I'll mix and match to make it the best overall. They all fit so it's not like we are talking about mickey mousing an oil pan that doesn't fit.....

My friend who has a h22 accord said the h22a4 aluminum pan holds more oil.

Prelude shop manual specs state that it requires 4.8L of oil (5.9L for engine overhaul) for both the H22A1 & A4.

Maybe the A4 does hold more but it's not designed for that...... I'm thinking the switch to aluminum must have more to do with weight cooling, or cost.

Food for thought Blue Top H23V uses F23A Oil Pan (Steel) and Pickup which pan is about 1/2" longer in height

That's good to know because your not always looking for a deeper oil pan if you have a racing or lowered suspension setup. 1/2" less clearance for exhaust and the road.

I have yet to find an application where aluminum is cheaper than steel for similar products, so I assume it was done for weight and possibly cooling. Would be interesting to see if one is stiffer than the other though (although I believe the h22a4 pan has stiffeners built in iirc).

Old post but I can't help but try and correct this.. this is not true.. you can't interchange oil pans without doing measuring or research first. Some pans are deeper than others, and this will definitely cause oil pressure issues. I know for sure the f22 pans cannot be used on h22 blocks, they will hit the oil pick up and not allow you to seat the pan fully.

Hopefully this helps someone out and not use the incorrect info, then cause them issues upon installation.
