H22 timing belt tensioner
Whats up with H22 timing belt tensioners? I got a h22 swap for my cb7 and I am doing its timing belt. so I took its tensioner off and turned the screw in under the bolt and it brings it in and if you let it go it sprays oil at you. What do I do?
Is it bad a little oil came out?

Buy a h23 tensioner setup or kazenspeed, at this point I wouldnt trust the hydraulic tensioner. Allot of people dont even trust the hydraulic ones brand new and properly installed.

Yes it's bad if oil spills out, holds up to 0.8mL I believe. Most common cause of failure is not enough oil from people not replacing the gasket at the bottom so that it leaks or they spill the oil when compressing and don't refill it. I'd be willing to wager that 90% of all H22 auto tensioner failures are caused by user error since people I work with who have been at the dealer since before the car was even made said they've never seen one come back with a tensioner failure that they performed a timing belt service on.
If you don't want to deal with it since it seems beyond you though you can use all the parts from a H23a1 tensioner.

I did alot of reading on this h22 tensioner and the new tensioner's come with the tool so all you do is pop them in and pull the tool out. But they are $107 from honda and since I have most of the parts and they can fail I am going to do the H23 tensioner conversion.
I have both the h23 and kazeenspeed setups for my motor and the kazeenspeed is alittle easier to install with a thicker HG. By time I wrestled the belt over the h23 setup there was little needed adjustment. Havent run the kazeenspeed yet, just on the engine stand, my build has stalled after having to buy a new DD.
HG=Head gasket. Doing the h23 tensioner conversion makes the timing belt harder to get on, and putting in a thicker head gasket would make it even worse since there is more space between the upper and lower gears. I have a brand new h23 tensioner conversion kit for sale if you want it; PM if you're interested.

So I did the h23 tensioner conversion and the belt was a bitch to get on.It feels tighter then it should be. Is there a longer belt that i can use by like 1 tooth?

No that's not too tight as long as the timing belt turns sideways like that. I did the same conversion and that's how it fits after you do that. It will do what it's supposed to do with no problems.
