1994 Civic cold engine acceleration hesitation
Ive got a 94 civic auto transmission with 185k miles. This problem has just started out of the blue about a week ago. The car will crank up just fine. When I pull out of my road and drive about 1-1.5 miles, it will start to bog and/or hesitate. If I keep my foot on the throttle the same the rpms just fall and the car wont hardly go anywhere, then out of nowhere it will start accelerating again like normal. Then it will do it again a bit later. When the car is fully warmed up it runs perfect. Only when going from cold to warm it likes to hesitate.
I have done/tested the following recently:
New cap, rotors, wires, plugs(ngk), fuel filter, air filter, thermostat, coolant, bla bla all that ****
I measured the tps voltage and it was .52-.53 closed, 4.55-4.56 wide open, with a steady increase as the throttle opened. Is that enough variance to throw it off? I wouldnt imagine .02-.06 volts is enough to make it run like this. I have not tested the MAP sensor yet (dont know how, but thats what google is for)
Anyone else had this experience or helped someone experiencing this before? All H-T archives with "cold hesitation" in the thread title produced no results. Searching other forums I also got nothing. It seems to be a semi-common problem. Other people have described it exactly like I have. People just keep replying with shots in the dark and no real information. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

It sure sounds like an ignition problem, but it won't cost you anything to check the fuel pressure. I had an Oldsmobile that acted this way because the fuel pressure was like 8 lbs not 40.
After that just replace the ignition module and coil. It's a guess but you can get them for $70 total on ebay.

i have the same issue on my 94 civic lx. i have tried a lot more than you have. i have also checked my fuel pressure and also put a new ignition module and coil. don't waste money on people's guesses. i am so tired of that, someone out there has to have had this problem and has an intellegent answer...no offense. i am wondering if it may be a bad ground??? i think i have tried everything else short of an engine swap. Anyone have an answer? Thanks!
