Icon2 Buddyclub Spec 3+ Cam problem in Boosted setup

Hey guys,

i have a customer that i build an B18C4 ( European GSR ) engine.

Specs :

Darton MID
9.7:1 Comp Ratio CP Piston
Eagle Rods
Eagle crankshaft
B16 Head
Ferrea valves
Supertech Springs and retainers
Budyclub spec 3+ cams with AEM camgear

Now my problem is that they say its an Drop In cam and that they does not need to be degreed, but when i lock the cams i got a tooth difference between the marks on the cam gear.

And when i set the cam gear mark where they are suppose to be i can not insert the pins into the cam to lock them.

Has anyone got this problem and what should i do to fix it ??

Thanks

Buddy club wouldn't be able to answer that for a turbo application. I've spoken with the guys there before in the past ( George is hilarious) and even he stated that there just wasn't enough duration for that camshaft to work well with a turbocharger. Even the ramp angle of that cam is smaller than an ITR, so it's not recommended . If you have GSR camshafts or ITR camshafts you are ok for turbo. GSC and Skunk2 would be your best bet if goin aftermarket

There is a quite a bit MORE duration on the BCIII+, than the ITR or S2.

Sounds as if your a tooth off, you cannot always trust the marking on the lower pulley. I have installed these cams a few times and never had issues when the belt was installed properly.

But not the same ramp angle to work best with a turbocharger setup.. NA, absolutely. Boost? Depends upon what size turbocharger and use, but not the most likely.

The OP can always just try them out and prove me wrong, I have no truck in it, but from my standpoint, I don't believe it would be a good match at all.

Nah..... You got other and better choices out there. From Kelford 176-Ts to GSC T1s to Web to DDTECH. There are too many actual companies that make a camshaft well suited for a turbocharger and not just super NA camshafts to try and fit the bill. Even the Pro1s were ok.

Sounds like the timing marks need to be checked with more detail. I have had aftermarket cam gears with the indications not indexed correctly.

As for running the cams, I say try it. They aren't a big cam, but if you already have them give it a shot. Don't let others decide what should or shouldn't be done. Question everything.
