Default Starting (fuel) problems

91 dx with a D16A1. Fuel pump not kicking on. Engine will turn over and fire and even run for a minute with starting fluid. Does that sound like the relay could be the problem or should I go straight to the pump?

it doesn't sound like a relay if it's turning over. could be a dead fuel pump. take it out and test it

Just tested the relay and harness. It's the pump.

Nope. It's the main relay.

It's the pump. I tested the relay, works fine. Tested the harness, works fine. Even put a wire on the harness to bypass the relay, still no fuel pump. The pump is shot.

yea, if it's cranking over it's not the main relay. put 12v to the fuel pump for a sec and see if it turns on.

When my relay went bad, my motor would turn over with the starter just fine. If I sprayed carb cleaner in the DPFI throttle body, the car would sputter and run for a second. I had 6V to my fuel pump, not 12V. I replaced the relay and the car fired right up.

I would have to side with SStupid. The main relay has plagued a many of Honda owners and with some of these cars running past 20 years old...these little boogers are failing.

I have had the very same thing happen to me and others I know. I would change that first being that it is easier to get at. Just my $0.02

A bad Main Relay will NOT prevent the engine from cranking.

Apparently, there's a communication issue with the terms "cranking" and "turning over" on this site.
