I'm having this problem on my B16A. Does anyone have any input (ive searched already)

 

Did you have the mains line honed when the arp main bolts were installed?

 

I installed ARP main studs and didnt have the mains line honed. It seems like its hard to turn at first but as soon as you get it to turn its pretty smooth with no catches. But when you let it sit for a little its hard to start turning again. My clearneces were a little above .0015 and #3 journal is around .0017. Im also using Clevite standard size bearings and my crank was micro polished.

 

did you check the bore on the mains with the crank out and the studs torqued?

 

What is your piston to wall clearance? Also were the pistons hard to get into the block?

 

Just remember one thing if using the proper techniques and tools to measure clearences or bore.

The crank is the only thing installed right now that is why im nervous lol :/. An no i did not check that i will tho thanks. I used plastigauge for my mesuring and it seems like my clearences are in spec maybe a little on the tight side but ya lol i just dont wanna start it up and next thing ya know it broke again lol

 

And also the machinest who did my block said that the block should be like new now. Well i mean not like new but i block thats in spec and ready to be built lol

don't run those arp main studs without having the mains line honed, you'll be spitting bearings out every week, install new stock style main bolts if your not having the mains line honed

 

Yeah you should def line hone. But first off did you lubricate the crank with assembly oil or any type of oil before putting the main caps on. Also ive seen this mistake plenty of times when people go to reassemble their motors they just slap their caps on not realizing that the caps have to go in a certain order and all facing the same direction. All main caps are numbered from 1-4 1-5 and it goes up depending on the size and a
How many cylinders a motor has. Check to see if you have them in order and all are facing the same direction.

 

O ya I did that on my very first rebuild 13 yrs ago had the caps all wrong of course I was only 15 learned my lesson, fixed it and it was as smooth as butter...

 

Ya i think ima have it line honed while its still apart. And yes i used oil and everything is in the right spot. Il let you know how it feels after the hone. Thanks for all the input!
