Default ZC Problems - Car Suddenly Dies?!?! :(

I was driving along and all of a sudden the car completely died on me on the hwy. It was the craziest thing? I know that the fuel pump is working as I hear it activate when i turn the key to accessory. I believe I am getting spark cause i shocked myself when I put a key in the #1 plug wire end and cranked. I checked the ECU and I am throwing NO Codes?? My Tow truck driver said it might be the coil pack in the dizzy? everything else seems up to par. The car was running good and strong up till now. Any tips you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.

IF i have to replace repair anything is it correct for me to assume that an 89 TEG Dizzy and coil pack would work?

Also when I got home I tried to crank it again and it kinda almost sparked and gave out a big puff of black smoke. I assume from all the fuel sitting in the combustion chamber from pumping the gas and trying to get her started.

Any help would be appreciated guys, I'd like to get this fixed and back to normal

BDR.

Guys I know usually you can see the spark flickering at the end of the plug wire... I see absolutely nothing when the engine is cranked. could it be that the coil is giving power but not giving enough power to properly operate the plugs???

As for the "stuck a key in there and got shocked **** i didnt have a screwdriver handy sop i fugred what the hey! hahaha

Thanx keep the tips comin.. I appreciate it... I will investigate further and let you know.

definitely check the coil if you don't see any spark at the end of the plugs.

correct, no spark usually leads to bad coil

There was a time something similar happened to my car. It turned out to be a loosened distributor rotor bolt. Another possible culprit could be your negative cables coming to the block. I had the small one snap on me one time, which made the motor impossible to start, but still allowed it to crank over. What happens when you insert an extra spark plug in to the wires ? Could just be that your plugs are the problem. Obd0 distributors are known to be crap, a fact that I can vouch for my self. I say swap a dizzy and see what happens.

Besides the valvcover to chassis, thermostat housing, and Negative Battery terminal grounds.... should there be others?
Sorry this is tough for me now as I cant see the car in front of me

i had the same prob. I was getting spark but the car wouldn't turn. after taking of the fuel pump and replacing it(with the v6- i toutgh it was not working since i didn't hear it) i found out that the copper wires were loose inside the ign. Cleaned them out tried it to turn and it worked. Now to start i have to let it crank for a sec. like a true racer but it works fine...
hope it helps!
