1999 Honda Accord V6 hopps
Ok, so my brother's car tends to hop kinda when i brake and its automatically shifting to the first gear. i also feel a little hop when i press the gas from 0mph. its like a little gesture when it shifts gears. i don't know if this is the transmission or what. I was wondering if anybody here knew of this problem or had this problem. what did you do to fix it? would i need a re-build? thanks
if its anything like whats happening to mine, and it sounds very similar, its either a solenoid or a clutch pack. pos baxa transmission im not rebuilding this thing, time for a stronger tranny. i4 trans u can upgrade, not sure if u can get a stronger one for a v6 though
If it is hopping bad, your trans may not be saved. The easy thing to do is to change the fluid, use genuine Honda trans fluid. It made a big difference on my 96 Accord Ex. The little hopping improved to almost not noticible.
ok shot in the dark here, i may or may not have improved mine. throttle cable on my car was a little bit tight so i loosened it a little. probably not related because it wasnt holding the t.b. open but who knows.
after doing this i went out and forced several 2-1 downshifts using heavy throttle pressure while driving around for maybe 20 miles.
noticed the bump disappeared and no problem whatsoever with downshifts during deceleration, and upshifting seems to be fine too. never had a kickdown type problem except at low speeds/low throttle but this is now gone, could return when the car cools off?
i mean it was like the thing lost all its problems after being "exercised" a little. not abuse, just a little hard driving.
this appears to me to mean one of several things. 1. some gunk or something may have been dislodged from an area where it was causing problems, 2. the clutches have best efficiency at higher than normal temps, which means they re worn, or 3. atf oil pump wear may be causing pressure to not be high enough under certain conditions.
ill let u know what it does tomorrow. u might consider trying some things too. i mean if the tranny is dying it cant hurt...make sure ur fluid is fresh too. only difference is mine is 4cyl, but same generation
