have you ever thought you would see a honda powered harley? i will say it is rare in the states so im trying to locate a rolling harley fatboy and stuff a cbr1000 motor into the frame and dub it the honda davidson. i have my reasons, pro's and con's behind my thoughts one of them is being how many harleys do you see doing a rolling burnout? not many at all because the v-twin has no ***** at all no matter how much money you spend! and the cbr engine will be easier and cheaper to maintain than the evo motor harley has been using since the late 80's. the evo is well known to leave you on the side of the highway and it will only cost about 3 grand to build this bastardized harley!
i've seen countless harleys do rolling burnouts, and its not that the v-twin has no ***** its because the v-twin engine has a very linear power delivery. the inline on the other hand is not, and there in lies your issue. the cbr1000 motor is a beast, and this beast is sitting in a frame that can handle it. your fatboy frame cannot. it weighs 2 to 3 times more and there is a reason why they stick v-twins in harley frames, because of the predictability. you do whatever you want, but at the end of the day you are going to have a bike that handles like **** and has no stopping power.

do you plan on fitting the engine yourself or taking it somewhere to get it done? I would just go into a HD dealer with a tape measure. see if you can estimate the clearance. next stop would be the honda dealer. If there is any question weather or not it's going to fit, just go with an RC51 engine or something like it.

that is one of the reasons why i want to build this! in my opinion the honda engine will be way more reliable than the ol v-twin...i dont want to be stuck under a overpass on my way to where ever. also think how many have you seen? thats what i was thinking and thats why i want to build this creation. the only one i have seen is in japan and is using a 50's HD frame and a 72 cb750. from what i have read he built it in the late 80's and has not been stranded since!

I think newer Harleys are reliable. I had an '07 Sportster for 2 1/2 years. It was a nice bike, just wasn't my style. I think H-D makes a decent bike, but they are way over priced, they kind of have to be to keep the image going.
I like this idea. It would irritate alot of H-D riders.

I had a chance to get a 883 rol/chas. I thought about sticking
a 26 hp briggs and stratton v twin in it.

Sportrider dynoed both the RC51 and the CBR954RR a few years back. I tried looking for the chart but I can't find it. Jist of it is, the CBR had nearly the same low end torque that the RC51 did.
all v-twins operate the same, a lot down low with nothing up top
Ducati 1199 Panigale: new 195 hp Superquadro engine......
That works out to 162.5 hp per liter even at the crank that aint to bad

i can guarantee the concept of this bike costed millions, but will only cost a consumer about 18k.
congratulations, you found the only V-twin on the face of the earth.
Don't forget the Britten V-Twin

Not bad for early 90's tech.
After having a chance to put a few miles on Triumph's Street and Speed
Triples I have to admit I do like them better than Twins and Inline Fours.

hee hee, I don't see much insight in this thread anyways, it's basically all theory and conjecture. I still like the idea though and if I had too much money, I would do it!
