Default A freinds R might get stolen very soon- read this post.

I saw a friend on aol im and chatted with him a while...

Then he mentions if I still have my car I'll come down to the local meeting. HUH?
Still, what are you saying?
My friend (his name is left out but if he wants to say...) said the cops paid him a visit at his house and told him that they found his vin and a bunch of other wanted cars vins and think that his will be next.
They said to keep it locked in the garage with the alarm on, and if he drives around in it they will pull him over regardless of who is driving. The cops took pics of his car for reference too.

So I asked him has there been any car theft gangs broken up and put in jail, he said ya but not sure what to do...

On this note, what would anyone to do???

I hope I got the story correct and as for my friend I could not wait for you to post it up, I know you’re a busy person.

wire a tazzer into the back of the drivers seat and hide the on/off switch so anyone that sits in the seat and doesn't turn it off will fry

Park it outside with a note on the steering wheel that says "YOU'RE FUCKED!!!" while you sit with your cell phone and a 12-gauge in the shadows....thieves...

wouldn't you be charged with murder if you shot someone trying to steal your car?

i think its great that the local enforcement actually took the time to pay your friend a visit...taking pictures and all??..it shows that they're trying to atleast curtail some future heartache we're all used to hearing by now...

i'm impressed, really, to finally read a post showing effort on their part. we usually hear about cops showing up 30 minutes after the fact, worse yet, blaming for insurance fraud .amazing...

hope your friend uses good judgement and common sense, and hopefully comes out of it okay. we don't need to lose any more R's

I'm not sure there is anything you CAN do. Aside from not driving the car, and/or moving it out of the state for a while.. *shrugs*

I'm actually curious why the police showed up taking pictures and stuff. Odd if you ask me. A heads up, sure... but pictures? Also - did they say where they found this "list"; man did I just have a 'Gone in 60 Seconds' flashback.

Tell your friend to just drive his car. I might recommend removing some aftermarket parts (if applicable) or atleast calling your insurance company to make sure the parts installed will be covered. Might want to tell them the police paid you a visit to let you know. Incase god forbid something DOES happen to the car, you were atleast pro-active with your insurance company and may help you in the long run with a settlement for a theft, and less time they may spend investigating it. Good luck

With a VIN, they can probably get a key made.
If I were him, I would get new locks put in my doors and ignition.

Anyone know if Acura is the only place that can make keys from VIN numbers for our cars?
If so, I wonder if the cops could find out if anyone put in a order for his vin number..

A guy that went to school with my younger brother actually steals cars. It's actually the whole group of asians he used to hang around with. Not to sterotype because i'm still cool with them, but very suprised because I would have never suspected them to ever do anything like that.
Anyways the one thing they all told me that they or anyone else they know could'nt get around while trying to steal a car was the AUTOLOCK! If you don't know it's like the club, but this locks down the accelerator, clutch, or brake pedal. I said "can't you just cut it in half". Nope It's made of cast iron. You'll need a blow torch to get through this. Suprisingly they all had one in there car. Convinced me!

Um, did he ask the cop to see his badge? If he took pictures, did he get the VIN number? Its really not that hard to impersonate a cop, and if he got your VIN number, he can easily get key made for the car...and steal it right from under his nose. I don't think local law enforcement would care enough to pre-empt you...

There are tools that make it easy to bypass it. Thing is, would your average street thug go to the effort to obtain a big bulky tool just for 1 car. He would most likely just move to an easier target.

hello...im the guy that this happened to.

To answer some of your questions...

yes it was a real cop. I live in a small town that only has about 20 cops and this was one of the cops that I know..he worked at the Dare program when I was in middle school.

he asked to take a picture of the car for refrences and to dictribute amongst the other local police to be on the lookout for this car.

im not the kind of person to carry a gun, as much as I love my car I dont think I would go that extreme. perhaps a tazer and a very powerfull BB gun but im not the kind of guy to kill someone else.

as a Type R owner I have always been very carefull with my car. I seldome take it anywhere I cant keep an eye on it. For now I have taken a few extra safter measures, im going to say exactally what for fear that it may be someone who reads this webboard. The car could be moved out of state temporarly, I havent reached that decision yet.

hhmmm. shoot someone stealing my car??? or let him steal it and get money from the insurance co??? hhmm.

Fact is... I want to be able to sleep at night.. shooting and possibly killing someone for a car... not worth it.

thats just me...

now is someone touched my tools... well thats a whole different ball of wax..
