I usually use some and after I poured in some (just like 1/4 bottle I usually put) im like hmmmm. I don't want that gum going through the turbo.

Nope no need. Just run a good quality full synthetic oil, change it every 3000 miles and you will be fine. I like Mobil 1 5w30 and Quaker State Advanced Engine 5w30.

 

We could start on this oil debate and go on for weeks, but long story short, always say no to anything lucas when it comes to oil. While you will probably be ok with an over the shelf synthetic oil, i always recommend Rotella T6, as all new over the shelf brands are now API SN grade and do not meet the standard of performance our engines require, especially in a high performance application where they will be going through turbo's as well.

 

If the car is messed up, yes lucas for sure. I swear by it.

Broke my oil pan on my old mustang and it ran dry for a few seconds. Put the new pan on to find it wouldn't hold oil pressure at idle. Quart of lucas fixed that problem.

As far as running it in a car with no problems, and built or heavily modified, I don't recommend it.

 

 

i never use oil additives....i heard alot about the rotella stuff spawne mentions it is very commonly used with turbo hondas...Personally i use to be a CAstrol gtx guy, recently switched to Valvoline Vr1 racing oil Non-synthetic 10W-30 per my tuners recommendations a few years back. I plan to stick with this. I dont believe and oil additive can really do much for you. Also the higher zinc content in the VR1 was appealing to me

 

ive been adding a little bit of lucas break in oil (just a few ounces) each oil change due to its higher zinc content. i use regular lucas oil stabilizer as assembly lube.

dont rely on lucas being thicker to mask be used as a band aid for other issues

 

I use a full bottle with every oil change in my k24 turbo setup been running fine for almost two years now with no problem I swear by it for turbo setups because those hot summer days break down oil faster and the lucas additive just ensures the oil sticks to all those moving parts.

So what about royal purple? I thought that was supposedly the best...

 

I have always been a big fan of royal purple, the price is just killer as of late, and under pressure from the gov. they removed the synerlec from all of their over the shelf product, so you have to order the HPS (high performance street) oil online to actually get the benefits of it.

 

^ i noticed they went up in price last week when i was in o'reilleys. didnt know they stopped with syntheitic though. if they have i may be switching oils in my evolution.

i have always used 3 qts royal purple 10w40 and 1 qt of lucas oil stabilizer in my 2003 mitsubishi evolution 8 for the last 4 years i have owned it. i will stand by it as a product. hell most of the auto stores i come across have a display with two handles and gears inside a plexiglass case that show how well regular oil sticks to the gears and creates a film vs oil with lucas stabilizer in it. not so much a "HYPE" when you can see the added benefits. just my opinion.

 

Well, ive personally seen plenty of engines and fuel systems with problems due entirely to lucas products, and their fuel injector cleaner is 99% paraffin wax...so go figure. RP is still full synthetic but in order to sell with the API SN cert for gov. and warranty reasons with car manufacturers, they had to remove their proprietary synerlec additive package in those over the shelf bottles you see.

I have a k24 turbo 9th gen civic Si it’s nearly complete I was considering running Lucas in mine as well but I just have been iffy like I trust the Lucas oil in vehicles that require 5w20 and up but I just feel like it would change the viscosity of the 0w20 to much Fun fact I like to put motor honey in my 2001 Camry aka beater car she seems to like it just hit 198k random rant over
