Default DIY Maintenance for older cars

Hey guys,

I am new to the forum.

I imported a JDM 98 model ITR and just did the normal maintenance. Then while searching for info on ECUs and the like, I came across a couple of DIY maintenance articles that people in the know suggest doing when you have an older car. They are the following:

PCV Valve Removal and Cleaning - Easy and Effective

***How-To Clean*** Your IACV a.k.a. Idle Air Control Valve

I was wondering if the experts have some other DIY maintenance that they would highly recommend being carried out like the above?

I wanted to make a collection of all of these articles to have all in 1 place for people who are in the same situation as I am.

Thanks

Every time I get a new used car I replace the following things.

Some may not be able to due to model etc etc:

Air filter
Cabin Air filter.
Wiper blades all 3.
Rotor cap, button, plugs and wires.
I would check the brakes.
Flush all fluids. Oil change, coolant, Tranny fluid( Honda MTF and Syncro mesh) brake and clutch fluid.
Check Tire air pressure.

Just go through the whole car as if the previous owner beat the **** out of it.

I would pull the valve cover, check every thing, get the tiers re balanced. Stuff like that.

Also, I suggest a compression check and leak down, checking the timing belt, water pump. ac and ps belts.

Just take a fine tooth comb and go through every thing.

OHH and post pics asap.

clean the iacv

replace the pcv valve

clean the TB, they get gummy from valve cover vapor

flush the radiator and replace coolant, use distilled water to mix the new coolant

check shocks for any leakers, replace if need be

flush brake fluid

replace timing belt if you're unsure of when or IF it was done.

Fuel filter is a good idea.

do a 4 wheel alignment too.

have the shifter bushings replaced and have the steering rack adjusted.

Would be a good idea to replace those bushings too. www.hardrace.com
